Lets see your Laguioles!!

For years I've been meaning to get one and never seem to get the job done. Now you've done it. I'm on the quest.

I like the one with the wild boar, for sure.

The honey bee is a symbol for Napoleon.

Great thread, guys!

I really enjoyed looking at these. I guess I'm going to have to get one now!

Here's mine to add to the mix!!!!!

I recently added an interesting Laguiole variation next to my two "classic" Laguioles.
It's a gentlemen folder with a laguiole look and feel but with a wider blade (8cm 12c27), a stronger thicker handle and a decent backlock. Not a knock-off product but lovely made by the true Laguiole professionals of Fontenille-Pataud, I have one with a horn tip handle. 18.5cm open, 10.5cm closed and a rather hefty 125 grams.
An excellent and dependable EDC, in my opinion.

Dagon, that is a beauty. I've seen those on the web and they sure look like a nice knife.

I also like that the blade is "flat" and highly polished, makes it look even more luxurious. This wooden-handled one looks great as well. One remark: this is the small model, they also offer a bigger "sport" laguiole, but these are too big and heavy for my taste.
With the dollar increasing in value against the euro, perhaps the time is right to take take the plunge for you? (for me, I see my USA knife acquisition rhythm going down however).
I also have one of Fontenille-Pataud's wonderful new interpretation of the classic "Le Thiers" design. I have one with an amourette (snakewood) handle, and in an -excellent- Paris shop I recently saw a model with damascus blade and mammoth ivory handle, and that one was even nicer! The variant with carbon-fiber handle is splendid as well.

Damn that's nice! These are extremely nice laguioles. I have my eye on the "single hand opener" model in Walnut. I like that it is still traditional style without the PITA of fumbling around to get it open. :D It is on my xmas list!

lookie what I got for Christmas! Dagon you were right, Fontenille-Pataud are indeed the true Laguiole professionals! While the other Laguioles I've held were nice, FP is just better all around. I got the one in olive wood. One thing though, you can open it one handed, but it's a little tough because it's so slim.

Zealot, meanwhile I have bought one which is a variant of yours: a backlock laguiole, but without the hole. It is very smooth and slick. Indeed, I think that everyone who tries Fontenille Pataud will like the quality. Mine has a polished blade and bolster, and a handle in amourette wood. It is very nice.

I realised after reading this thread that I have a knife in my safe that is propably a Le Pionnier couteau.
My father in law gave it to me, something he picked up at the office, he is a police chief and they confiscate knives all the time. He sometimes gives them to me. :D

I thought nothing of this knife, allthough the engraving on the back of the blade told me it was not some china made crap.

I dont know Le Pionnier at all, just what I could google but it is nice that it is a brand and not China made.

The stuff that is a little better than average and good quality sometimes, seems to find it's way to me more easily now, even when I'm not looking.

By the way, the knife will be cleaned up proper.:o

Here is mine, hopefully you won't but me on the rack as punishment for showing a non-French example...this one by Spyderco

Made by Lide l'Artisan. Handles are Juniper and have a great aroma. Was a birthday gift this year from my son. Use it when I go out someplace nice for dinner. So it doesn't get used often. Always brings questions.
