Let's see your sheaths!

Habilis Bush Tool and a slightly modified sheath...I has a pouch for a DC4 hone, Bird & Trout blade, my home-made firesteel with tinder capsule handle and a small tube with a couple of needes and artificial sinew:

My wife if finally sending my Mad Dog PATAK to me here in Afghanistan. Mad Dog made a new belt sheath and added a drop leg sheath and a MOLLE sheath for my IOTV...really looking foward to the reunion:D

I've got one of talfuchre's sheaths from back when he liked the square bottoms, it is really amazing. Makes me not wanna carry the knife and cut it up like I always seem to do...

I'll take some pics tomorrow of some of mine.

one of the best stock sheaths i've seen comes from esee and my favorite is the junglas' sheath - ambi, multiple carry options, multiple retention and a way to tighten it or even lock it in place (that slick notch/sliding screw near the ricasso area)...it has something for everyone.

with that said, i'm not real picky when it comes to sheaths - my only requirements are good retention and ambi (i'm a lefty). i usually wear a 4" knife around my neck/shoulder and any blade that's longer it's either in my hand while using or attached to my pack.

I've become a big fan of the puukko, the whole package is so well thought out. The sheath design is also well done -- secure, lightweight, attractive and convenient.

The closure has been upgraded from snaps to a single Fastex buckle.

I need to get me a Tal sheath. Those are works of art in leather right there. And I love River-8's pics, that is some well used and loved gear!

Wow guys. You've really given me a lot of options to consider. Very, very cool.

Kamagong - now THAT is a nice sheath. Simple is HARD!

I agree Tal. Although the design is simple, the execution and attention to detail is outstanding. It's perfectly fitted, and the knife clicks into place when resheathing. Both knife and sheath amply illustrate what is possible when a skilled craftsman takes pride in his work.

The only nitpick I have is with the decision to use black thread. I think it would have looked much better with brown, or maybe even white thread. I guess there is always room for improvement.

It really is a treat seeing some of the excellent craftmanship (and photography) here ... you inspire us fledgling leatherworkers/amateurs...

There really is a unique leather work skill set to making sheaths alone. After getting tolerable at making some IWB & OWB holsters I thought a fixed blade sheath would be not be really any different. Fitting knives securely is a different set of tricks of the trade than pistols.

Really cool to see the work here ...I am a member of a leather work forum and rarely are such nice (if any) sheaths posted like these. Keep them coming guys ...

Thanks,

It is Karesuando blade(Sandvik steel),olive wood handle and sheath made by me.

I have kind of gotten into the Mountain Man stuff as of late;

THis is my first attempt at one.

Right now I am just enjoying modifying the old Old Hickory butcher knives to make them look like period pieces.
