I will have to disagree with you on that you can etch deeply to get a stamp effect, here is a link to a stamp vs etching thread over in the makers forum
Have you ever tried to stamp hardened steel? It would take a lot of force and one heck of a stamp to do it. Knives that are stamped are usually done before HT and while still hot. Also most of the marks are on the grind and if you look at the close ups you can not see the tell tale signs of raised metal around the area. Take a look at Mace's etch, post #6, it is amazingly deep.
