Let's see your Traditional Case knives, old to new.

These have been previously posted, but not together, as seems fitting. Plus I carried them today. Case 047 medium stockman and Case 47 large stockman, both from 1940-1964.

Here's one that stumps me. No markings other than - CASE Bradford PA - stamped on main tang. I don't think that it is a 30 or 53, and on the MOP handled 71s, the handles were dovetailed under bolsters (no pins).Purty, though.

Any hunches, Charlie? waynorth waynorth ?
Bolsters? Did you post the wrong pics??

Bolsters? Did you post the wrong pics??

Apologies, Charlie, The point that I was trying to make was that it couldn't be a 71, as that pattern in MOP, uniquely, has bolsters and no pins, which is different than mine. I can't determine which 3 1/4" equal end pattern mine is (reminiscent of our 30 or 53 discussion). The Case pattern guide on the AAPK site indicates that 53s were equal end cattle knives, and the picture they show for a 30 looks nothing like mine. Steve Pfeiffer's "Collecting CASE KNIVES" does not cover the 30 or 53 patterns.

Interesting, Stuart. If they DID make a shadow 71, you would likely see the pivot pins (like yours!!)??
Some patterns (few) just can't be found in books!! Especially from those old days!!
Could it be the bail was removed?

Could be, Charlie, though it doesn't look like a knife that would have a bail. Pfeiffer notes that the 8271 MOPs were unique in that the bolsters replaced the pins, viz., no shadow 71s in MOP were made. BTW, the 71 pattern went out in 1961 and has not been revived. Well, I'm not going to toss it away. Just another mystery.
