Let's see your Traditional Case knives, old to new.

I came across an estate liquidation of perhaps 50 LNIB contemporary Case knives of various patterns last year. I didn't look too closely as the prices were high but the memory that sticks is how uniformly garnish the whole lot was. Most were bone. Nothing like the old beauties that show up here. My $0.02 for what it's worth.

On the other hand I just got in a new Case Vintage Stag canoe that I'm still drooling over so go figure....

Fond of this Chestnut cv Stockman alright :)

pmek5 pmek5 Thanks very much  I'm very attached to this knife and turn to it a lot, shot in between autumn rains last year at my country place.

Regards, Will

Lance, Will, Ron, Ace, and Rick, thanks for your opinions, insights, and advice; much appreciated.:thumbsup:

Part of my disappointment is probably related to this purchase being "a step up" for me in perceived quality: my quarterly buying spree was just 3 Case knives instead of my usual 10-12 Rough Riders, and I've always been very happy with the jigged bone covers on the RR knives (smooth bone RRs have sometimes been quite poorly died, in my experience). I suppose I can probably sell them LNIB and try again, but online purchasing is apparently kind of a gamble. I have a couple work projects and taxes to finish this week, but that will give me time to decide how I want to handle this.

Gary, I’m sorry that you are disappointed with your new knives, as I know that feeling!
Unfortunately, what you experienced is why I can’t buy Case Jigged Bone knives sight-unseen anymore. No Internet purchases. The dye jobs are so random that I want to see them in a brick and mortar store (unless buying from the Exchange or a similar venue, with multiple photos of the actual knife).
I typically will visit a store early in the morning when they are not busy and tell the salesman up front that I will want to look over many knifes to make my choice. All have been very accommodating.

I received 3 knives from Case this week, and was quite disappointed in the color of the covers of two of them. :( Maybe my expectations are too high??
Pocket worn harvest orange Tribal Lock, chestnut jigged bone CV teardrop, and amber jigged bone CV canoe are the knives I bought. They seem to be well made and I have no complaints about the function of any of the knives. But I have a Harvest Orange humpback stockman and several knives with chestnut jigged bone from Case, and the 2 I just received literally pale in comparison to my others. To my eye, the dye jobs are very uneven and not nearly as vivid as my previous Case examples. Am I too picky? The canoe is exactly what I was expecting.

Too picky in my book if you're buying bone knives online. Bone color varies as does the tastes of knife buyers; what one person likes another may not. The same "color" can vary with any bone from big companies. I have a Boker leverlock in dark red bone, but have seen variations with pink, red/white and red/pink that I woldn't buy. I've seen custom bone handled knives that sold but would be considered too faint or odd for some. Bone color can grow on you. I bought a Case Bose Yukon jack and have come to love what I initially disliked.
