Let's Set The Record Straight

FNG: Actually, I am pretty well traveled (probably been to about 40% of the countries in the world).

And you're right, in a sense, slavery still exists, de facto, in this country, although it is a slavery of necessity not of coercion. In a basic sense, all "wage earners" are surfs (not slaves). One could leave one's life of wage earning, but one doesn't always have the capital. I know this is way off topic, but you've got me on a roll. What were surfs? Men and women who farmed their master's land and got to keep the fruits of a small percentage of the land to subsist upon. What do we do as wage earners? We farm our master's land (work in his or her company) and get to keep the fruits of a portion of our labor (in the form of salary). Is it slavery? No. Can we always break free? No. But not because we are not free - but because we don't have the means (our wage is too small). Generally, is this a fact of life? Probably.

Rather than serfs,or share croppers per se,I was refering to Africa,Asia and South of the border.Asia would include what some call the Middle East and Near East. That laps over into the North African slave trade.
You can`t tell me that you don`t know about it.You are well travelled.
