Let's talk about liners!

I'll admit, I used not only fiber liner, but also *gasp* Devcon 2 ton on my first knife. I also used pigment in the epoxy, but I don't know if that weakens the stuff at all.

In any case, the knife is just my belt knife, nothing for sale, but I'll let y'all know in 20 years if it falls apart. :D

What I did was flood the fiber with CA until it no longer soaked, but then, it dries so fast it's hard to tell if it stopped soaking, or simply dried without much penetration. I will say with confidence that bonding liner material, be it fiber or g10 to micarta or g10 is well done with CA. This I have tested and doing it came to me by recommendation from a very experienced knifemaker.

Personally, I like the more subtle color of the "ruby" red G10. :) True primary/secondary colors on a knife look gaudy and cheap to me... unless you're going to go all the way and embrace safety yellow, blaze orange, etc.

It occurs to me that facing a 1/8" or so red G10 liner with a thin layer of white G10 (.015") might make the most of its color... but it's still not going to be "fire engine red".

One could try various other plastics to get a bright red color... but be careful of adhesive issues and test them first... some plastics simply won't stick to the epoxies we typically use.

In my opinion, vulcanized paper is a junk material.

I completely agree. I wouldn't use it again if it were free.
