Lets talk about the bk1 vs bk4 vs bk9…again

Has the BK4 discontinuing been verified or is it still speculation. I bought one recently and LOVE it. If the aren't going to be produced anymore I might need another...two

well, if they sell out, they might make a few more for stock, but why keep pushing the design, if people aren't buying them?

personally, i hoped they'd make the original thicker versions, or maybe even the other thickness that proved well. so it goes.

as for hints :D

well :> you've probably seen a picture of something you shouldn't. maybe.

i'm on a horse, with pictures of that thing you love

no wait, diamonds...

don't you wish you knife could smell like my knife?

old spice

The sad thing with the Brute is that with the right grind (Ie full height convex) it would work beautifully-but that's just not a feasible production grind, since somebody has to do it by hand. Someday I may take measurements off of GSOM's brute and clone it, either thinner, distalled and flat ground or just distalled with a high convex.
Definitely tempted to get a stock 4 to go with my reground one, just out of sentimentality though.

Let me add that I reprofiled the VERY obtuse edge of my Brute from a stock angle of ~100 to closer to 60 degrees and it is MARKEDLY improved. Dresnor was even making some feather sticks with it at the Spring Gathering. Now it cuts instead of bludgeoning. I'd agree with Jim that it's not the profile of the Brute that hamstrings it - it's the grind/edge geometry. Now it's even FUN to use.

I'd love to get my hands on the Brute just to test it out. Not sure that I could afford to own one given their rarity at this point but it is such an intriguing looking blade to me.

It is a fun blade to use. Like the 9 and 4 more, but it's still fun.

Keep your eyes out. There are still a few to be had at "reasonable" prices....but there are other much more capable blades out there for less $$. And we still have the RBK yet to be released....

I was looking for a Patrol Machete as well, after I got the Brute. Then I was lucky enough to handle one at a Gathering last spring and was....unimpressed, I guess, given the prices they normally fetch. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice knife, but....I think the Brute was my last purchase of any "rare" Becker. Unless I find one of the earlier RBK's at a decent price. And since I like to use what I got, I probably wouldn't get one, anyway. Just gonna wait for the new version to hit the market.

And to be fair, the Brute isn't really usable out of the box.....unless you're looking for a knife shaped bludgeon, IMO. The edge is positively obtuse, as in 100° inclusive sort of obtuse. I didn't really use mine until I worked up the stones to take it to the KO Worksharp and put an actual, cutting edge on it. Now it's good....but it'll never be anything other than a user for me or whoever else may take possession of it in the (hopefully far-flung) future.
