Let's talk about the folder lock. (JERRY, READ THIS)

It was mentioned that there would be a Walker type lock in the folder, so let's get a discussion going on what we know about Walker locks for Jerry's benefit. As I had mentioned in the other thread, the most secure type of liner lock that I have had experience with (on 2 different knives) were recessed, lock-bar style knives. One is the MOD trident, and the other is the Microtech SOCOM (IMO the trident being a better example of this). What makes me feel like these are very secure locks is the angle. Instead of going in an almost 90 degree direction, they are angled a bit over more for two reasons. 1) they are both straight. These bars do not bend, like traditional liner locks, they are truely bars that will not give under pressure, and because they are recessed, they begin a higher point on the scale, and give a greater angle, and therefore (in my eyes) security. So Jerry, are you ready yet? ;)
I'd very much like to hear from others things that they've seen that makes a more secure liner lock, so Jerry can get this on the road already! ;)

the busse folders that i have held all had a busse designed lock, and none were of the liner style. i haven't seen the latest proto.

Ok, liner=Walker. Got ya. Skunk is correct. Busse doesn't intend to use a liner lock, if he did, the Busse folder would have been out in short order like the Rat Trap. We are talking innovation here my friends! But I have already said too much. Don't mind me I am off of my meds. :)

I like everyone else have great hopes for the Busse folder. I would hope that it would have a better lock then a liner lock no matter how it was modified. To date the most secure lock I have had on a knife (little proof just my opinion folks) is the Hawk D.O.G by Grant and Gavin Hawk. You can pick up the CRKT version for $50-$60 and I strongly recommend everyone try it. Sorry to get kind OT on another folder and give it a plug. So for me unless it is a liner that is so thick that it should be considered a framelock then I will be a bit disappointed. I know a well designed liner lock is strong enough for most folding knife uses, but a well designed framelock, axis stlye lock, even a lockback is stronger still. Either way I can't wait to see it and I haven't been waiting nearly as long as some of you other guys :D . Just my opinion here guys be gentle... ;) :p

edited to add about three people posted after I started this so i see that the proto up till now has not been a liner :footinmou Still stand by what i said :)

I my admittedly limited experience with liner locks, they can jam when filled with unplesent debris like saned, gravel, mud etc. I think Mr. Busse will create something revolutionary and in order to do this he will have to be origonal.

Good things come to those that wait. :D

"Walker-type lock, with extra stuff to make it "dead-bolt" secure... no doubt"

I'd have more faith in the above mentioned lock-bar mechanism than either the regular liner lock or framelock, but, hey, that's just me.

That maybe true, but backlocks are more prone to fail with dirt or lint. If a lock can't engage, it doesn't matter how strong it is. May sure you hear any folder close before you use it.

Okay, but does anyone know if Jerry is happy with the current lock? If so, PLEASE, just start outsourcing the handles, and make some fricking blades for those babies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IMO, the Busse lock is innovative enough that Jerry is not about to talk about it publicly until patents are secured, if applicable, and the knife is introduced. I am sure that he would not want us giving away anything, either. If someone has seen the folder it was an act of trust on Jerry's part, that should be honored by pleading the fifth along with Bravado.

I would have to agree.
