Let's Talk About Whistles

At the Canadian Tire stores by my house,they sell a two pack of Fox 40 Micro whistles. They are loud and a modern whistle shape that is more keyring friendly. Usually comes in two colours,one being blaze orange and one more subtle for day to day carry. A trick I learned from the local Scouts is that Walmart has Orange Fox 40's in the boat section and when they figure boat season is over,the price goes way down e.g 1.99. The black ones in the hockey section go 6.99 and up
 
I have an ACME Tornado, and one of the yellow ones that come in the AMK pocket survival pack. The Acme is my favorite as it seems to provide a small amount of resistance to blow through it, making it easier to make a prolonged sound. It is a deeper tone than the one from the kit. The AMK, whichever one it is, is extremely shrill and warbles, which seems like it would make the noise stand out. Both far outclass any other whistle I have heard though.

The storm leaves both behind substancially. I carry the storm most times and the size does not bother me as its ability outweighs everything.

I do EDC a modded fox 40 on a sak for the pocket.

The Storm is the loudest out there by a large margin IMO. I actually tend to not use its full potential as it leaves my ears ringing if I do. Worth every penny.
 
When I need to use my hands while whistling, I use the fox 40.. my ears ring a little after using it full force, but it's nothing compared to a full blast on the storm. If i'm going to use the storm, I plug my ears, whistle, then motion to whoever is doing something stupid on the beach :D
 
Another vote for the storm, I do EDC a fox 40 mini however, which is not as loud as the storm but it is plenty loud for it's size. Chris
 
I have several ITW Nexus Marine whistles. 2tone whistle in bright orange. This thing is LOUD! No mechanical parts, and has a belt or strapclip and lanyard hole.

I like the Fox 40 and got a couple on my PFD's. For a slightly smaller package I like the ACME Tornado 636.
