In my experience wood is a solid choice for the most part. I’ve had one crack pretty good, Osage. I had to file it out wider and use wood shavings and superglue to patch it. Came out nice and you wouldn’t realky notice it without inspecting the knife. I’ve rehandled one myself in untreated, unstabilized bocote and it’s been perfect through much use and carry for a long time now. Now, wood CAN get gouged and marked up pretty good, especially if it’s a softer wood, if you drop it or bump it often. But then again, the same abuse will likely chip bone so...
Anyways, I typically rub some oil into the wood every now and then on my wood handled knives, maybe every 6 months or so?
They’ve been using wood on knives forever, and with the tiniest bit of care, a wood handle should last for a few generations.
