So its been a long time since ive handled a fixed blade, it might be because of these strict laws in Virginia. Anyway I am in need of a fixed blade around 7 inches or larger for under $100. What knife would you guys reccomend. I was leaning towards a Cold Steel Recon Scout but is over my $100 price limit. The only other knife that I was interested in was the Cold Steel OSS but that is double edged and i really do not need the extra edge and it is not legal where I live. I wish that i could get a Busse or a Scrap Yard Scrapper 5 but, cash is way too tight now-a-days.

7" or larger for under $100, that's a Ka-Bar specification I believe. :D

Yeah... What's the cool lookin Becker called? The one that's got the 9" blade...? ;)

A seven inch blade, or 7" overall?

If on a budget, and who's not, I suggest looking at Buck, Anza, Ka-Bar, Becker, Condor, or Ontario. Don't forget the For Sale by Maker section at Bladeforums. And it might be worth checking out some of the good quality but still reasonably priced Scandinavian brands, Ahti, Helle, Brusletto, and others.

It would also be useful, in order to make a recommendation, what is your intended purpose for the knife? Hunting, kitchen prep, just lookin' at...

unless you are not hunting with a knife you are better off with a smaller knife. probably 3" or 4" blade for dressing should do the trick.

That one is a great slicer. Should be a fine knife. The BK7 and the BK9 are more common all-around camp knives. Slightly shorter than what you mentioned is the BK2 which is one heck of a camp knife. Can't go wrong with any of them.

Cold Steel also makes a knife called the OSI, which is basically an OSS but fully flat ground with one edge. Might be a good option if you wanted the OSS.

BK2 for a 5 1/2 inch blade
BK7 for a 7 inch blade
Condor Varan for a 8 inch blade
BK9 for a 9 inch blade
Condor Kumnga for a 10 inch blade

all are under $100 shipped

A trip to Wally World can land you a shorty - only 6" x .175" - but a keeper - The USA-made Buck 119 for ~$34. Hard to beat - a real classic!

For around $100, you could get a BK5/7/9 + BK11/14 combo that should cover most of your bases. You could substitute a good machete for the larger knife and save a few dollars.

I see a Recon Scout on ebay for $99. Most are right around $100-$110, that should be close enough to your $100 limit. The knife is very definitely worth it. But if you want one step down but still a great knife, the CS SRK is a great choice. I also agree that you can get a nice USMC Ka-Bar or a Becker for around that price too. Good luck.
