Lets talk GEC!

You know what they say, wish in one hand… ;) :D

I’m still disappointed that they did the #74’s and #47’s separately, and didn’t go with my #747 idea with blades that open on both sides. Now that would’ve been a unique knife!

But you would always have a blade spine biting into your palm...

So, basically just like a bunch of other two or more bladed GEC models :D

As an immediate example, I wish the #44s had been single bladed. Of course, same again with the two-blade #23s and #86s! They give a knife this awesome, ergonomic handle shape, and then completely kill the line where fingers would naturally curl around for grip by making the spine of the second blade the contact point instead.

I also wish the #44 Gunstocks would have been single bladed. I ended up passing on the run. You wouldn't think it would be that hard to do both single, and dual bladed models on a run.

Oh well, gives me a future release to hopefully look forward too ;).

They have done that before - the last run of #78s come to mind. Aside from the numerous SFOs, all the standard run versions came in a single blade as well as a 2-blade version. It is hard to count the #23s as the same though since they implemented a lock on the single blade variants - making the two versions completely different knives.

I generally prefer a secondary blade on my knife but I also have become accustomed to using a sort of modified pinch grip on my knives.

Oh, the #747 would only be meant for collecting/flipping, not designed for use. I don’t think they’d even need to bother with sharpening the blades.

Better still, just have it completely non-opening, a new take on fixed-blade, permanently shut :D
Should be right up the Lemmings' Street and just the job for analists who hide their knives away for an eternity(purgatory) of non-use

Joking apart, some GECs can feel a bit uncomfortable in the hand when using the master blade as your fingers get bitten by the sharp spine of the secondary blade(s) Not noticed this on other knives brands really.

Good point. I wish they would of done it with the #44 pattern. There were a few buyers that paid to have a blade delete done, just to get a single bladed gunstock.

Plenty of these around and many are equal to or better than a GEC

Sadly, their poor quality control killed any desire to own any more of those. This pic alone, my eye is drawn to like three things immediately that I'd be irritated with if I paid what those go for on secondary. Nice knife, though!

What’s the story on the 38 special? I don’t understand why all these other GEC releases sell out in seconds, but those 38 special knives (and a few other models) are available at many dealers and look to have been released a while ago. They look just as nice as the other releases to me.

I’m new at this if that’s not obvious. :)
I started collecting GEC knives in 2018. I bought one of the last GEC#38 Bocote wood knives during the shut down. I cleaned/oiled it and laid it on my spear bed with my other knives. I never paid much attention to it. When I put in a pre-order for an Ironwood #74 , I bought a tractor green #38 to show my gratitude. The GEC#38 Special is wonderful for one arms , children , and women. I carry my green #38 all the time. I pinch grab the #38 blade with the knife between my knees/thighs and it opens quickly like butter. I believe the GEC collectors hated the lighter snap. The flat red & green jigged bone #38 was just not appealing to collectors. I love my new Tractor Green bone #38 Special . I got to cherry pick mine from 7 others. I'm am going to buy my neighbor' s child one , after the GEC#47 run. The GEC#38 is an easy user for EDC .

Haven't bought one in a long while.
Nothing exciting me on the horizon.
Secondary Market has priced me out.
I have about 10 GEC's left in my collection.
Will this be the ending of a beautiful relationship?

You will have a wonderful relationship with the 10 you own. For my money that's the best relationship, not the relationship we have with the chase.

I have 100+ that I am considering whittling down to my 10 favorite. I don’t consider it ending a relationship. I love the brand, the people that make them and how fortunate I am.
