I figured I'd dip my toes in the GEC pool and bought my first one last night.
An 87 english jack with a jigged cherry wood handle.. and I just received the notice that it's been shipped!
I like larger slips, like the 87 series GEC makes, they have some nice versions too. I'm already checking out the hummingbird and coal oil ones.
Looking forward to my 87 and seeing if GEC is for me.
I’m growing a beard waiting for pics…I received my #72 Plainsman in Ebony in today's mail. My first impression is that I have a new favorite GEC!
I have that version of the 87, I think you will love it. Jigging is wonderful, much better than pictures show. Great, well built, hand filling GEC. I am very sorry to tell you, you will not be able to stop at just one : ) Welcome to the addiction.
I will be at the mothership in 1 month. I'll put in a word.Someone’s gotta talk to bill howard about this jigged micarta nonsense. Got my 72 today and the mechanics are flawless. The jigged micarta is really odd at best. I was fine with it on a pruner, something that I will literally be dragging thru the mud. This would have been a 10/10 knife with the same dyed jigged bone.
Jiki talk to you guy.
Agree with Jeff. 56 from all years are smooth openers, cam-tang no half-stop. Very decent action and suitable for those with dexterity problems, although they are not a big knife.Someone tell me if I should buy this knife,is it a bear trap?
any other info, I have one chance.
Tidioute Cutlery GEC #562211
Amber Jig Bone
Good looking Blackwood Viper! These CK 48's turned out awesome.

Here's mine from the 2011 run and I sold it to somebody in Scotland a couple of years back. Tend to prefer the single blades but the 2 blade Jacks offer heft for those who like it.

I'm thinking you are right. I'm casually going through my collection right now, considering which ones I wouldnt mind selling.
I do have a question, Is it awkward or difficult to pull the main blade with the second blade closed?
Nice to see people speaking highly of the 87 jack,I have one in the works.i have a 65 hogan but feel it's a little slim for me wee hands,I think the 87 might be the thing.
I am happy with my tomato. Look at my pics above, and tell me how you like my tomato. My tomato is rich and juicy [looking]. However, my tomato is barely sharp enough to cut a tomato, so it will get a touch up before use.Doc you did get lucky with your tomatoes, I'm not a fan of acrylics but some are hard not to like some of the tomatoes .
Yes.is it heresy to say that
And double the price, right? Or maybe M390 and Magnacut and quadruple the price?I'd like to see them start making some in 14C28N or Nitro-V?
