Lets talk GEC!

I actually am genuinely curious about the #25 pattern. I was fortunate enough to get in a reserve for one so I will get to experience it firsthand fairly soon. I am actually a wee bit concerned that it might prove to be on the smallish side for me and that I might not enjoy it. That being said, I have learned that anything and everything can surprise you and that one's perceptions and desires can and do tend to evolve.

I will say that my initial attraction to the #25 is its simple aesthetics and my general preference for a single blade jack has something to do with it as well. Also, I have come to enjoy a good stout pull and it sounds like the #25s are known for this so that is another point in its favor. However, if it doesn't work out, my little girl is now of age and is expressing interest in acquiring her first pocket knife. Depending on the strength of the pull, this could be a good candidate for her.

Padruig, the 25 has a broad appeal as it has a lot of options. Literally, it's broad so I think it satisfies both fans of the small knife and those who want a decent handle to get hold of, but it stows away in the pocket very neatly. As for the pull, all the ones I've has a tough ones but who knows with the latest run? I'd say your little girl would be better off with the 18 Coyote or 2 blade Beagle, both have moderate pulls. The 14 single blade could be another knife of interest to her.

regards, Will

Thank you for the input, Will, it is much appreciated. I do think a stout pull could be a potential safety issue for her so depending on how this latest run of #25s turn out, I will certainly heed your advice and look at some other options. It is fun to see how my children's tastes differ. My son, whose first knife was a SAK, tends to show a preference towards "tactical" looking modern folders and knives with lots of gadgets/tools. My daughter, on the other hand, is very partial to the more traditional patterns that I am always looking at, even going so far as to demonstrate her preferences for a single blade jack, though she states she wouldn't be opposed to maybe two blades, but they have to open on the same side.

Yeah, she is rather opinionated, much like her dad, I suppose... :D I have been eyeballing the 14s for quite a long time now and attribute my hesitation towards picking one up to my worry that it might prove small for me. But it might be just right for my little girl, thank you for the suggestion.

My pleasure! Nice to hear that your kids have knife enthusiasm as well:thumbsup:

The Coyote with its Wharncliffe might appeal to your daughter.

I found the 14 single blade to be a bit skimpy for my liking but the thicker 2 blade Jack is much more to hand. Well, one for her and one for you:D

Is anyone else gleefully being trolled by GEC's "top of the stairs"?

It seems they zoomed in on the previous picture.

It appears to be a new entry mat with perhaps a new logo?? The old mat is rolled up under the metal folding chairs. I live way to far away to go and visit them.

That's my guess too... A welcome mat for the rondevous

I know they weren't well recieved(compared to their more popular models), but it would be pretty cool to see a return of the 09 esquire.
I don't know how many times I hovered over the "add to cart" buttons on one of the few blue denim acrylics that were still available well into last year.

Oh, and while I'm in the wishful thinking kind of mood, I would sell the rights to my first born if they would take the bear lake and turn it into a sleeve board like a jacked up esquire. Ok, I might be getting a little over dramatic, but that would be one heck of a knife right there.
I remember Christine saying that it wasn't a north woods exclusive pattern, so it's definitely doable.

I'd like to see another run of little Indian girls canoes, myself. You never know!

I'll 100% agree with you there. Of all the GEC Knives I have had and parted with. It's The little Indian girl canoe I miss the most. :(They were mostly sold out at the GEC Dealers by the time I started collecting but I don't think they were a hit out of the gate. Why? I have no idea o_O

The canoe was the second slowest moving GEC knife produced to date, behind only the #48 birdhook. It would surprise me if they hurry to make another batch.

It would surprise me too, but if GEC always did what was expected, they wouldn't be GEC. If we're looking for another run of little knives besides the 25, I'd think the most likely pattern is the 33.

Honestly, I'm surprised they made a run of 48's this year.

IMO not many folks are fond of canoe pattern and I guess one of the reasons is sheepfoot and clip are more popular nowadays, rather than spear.
(Please correct me if I am wrong.)

The most interesting detail on GEC #16 might be its long bolsters which make it be more similiar to the real one, while other manufacturers don't do it.

While I'd love to see another run of 33s, the small knife I was expecting by now was a 14 with clip or sheepsfoot. There's still time this year obviously, but I figured this would be a yearly thing for awhile.

Maybe it's because there's still a lot of 14s out there, and they don't want to add to the surplus.

I'm with you, Ryan, I was just sure we'd see a clip 14 this year. For me, in a 2 blade jack, the clip/pen combo works very well.

Not as well as my trusty Crown Lifter tho! Some more 15s with the clip/lifter would sure be sweet.

I suspect that has something to do with it. Honestly, the 14 doesn't really do it for me. It's a little basic. The 15 and 77 were already pretty similar, and more in line with the size I like.

I'm probably the odd man out, though.

I wonder how a run of penbertons would do. I know I'd nab one...
