Lets talk GEC!

That's what I thought also. There are two things that concern me. 1) they already seen to have gotten wider and 2) the areas that look pitted open to the surface, as in it has created holes on the surface that I can feel with a finger nail

I sent the pictures to Chris and she said they'll get back to me once Bill has a chance to look at them. Glad they are so helpful.

Well that sounds like the acrylic didn't cure properly, and perhaps it ought to go back to the factory. Looking forward to learning what GEC thinks.

I think something happened to cause the couple of chips on the top layer and moisture got between two layers over time.

NEVER use window cleaning fluids with ammonia (such as Windex or Formula 409), gasoline, denatured alcohol, carbon tetrachloride, or acetone, which will cause the acrylic to craze with minute cracks.

Years back a colleague received a bottle of single malt whisky as a birthday gift at work. He graciously decided to share it with us over the noon hour. I had a clear acrylic coffee mug on my desk that he poured the whisky into. I was busy on a call for about 15 minutes. When I picked up the mug it had a hundred tiny fracture lines. Nope. acrylic does not like alcohol either.

Anyone know what "car" stands for on this 56 tang stamp

Random question: When GEC "pinches" the bolsters, are they flat or concavely indented? It honestly kinda irks me when GEC makes the Northfield line too fancy. I like the looks of stag and appaloosa bone, and woods like snakewood and cocobolo, but when GEC only uses those materials when they also pinch the bolsters and matchstrike the pulls, it kills the appeal for me. Just my particular opinion.

The ones on the above 56 are concave. Its my first un x ld other than a 77 Barlow. Im not one for fancy either but i love the swedges on the un x ld and i love the match striker on this one.

Anyone think the match strike long pull on the #56 is a little shallow? After oiling mine opens okay but it seems shallower than other GEC long pulls.

I dont know if its more shallow. To me i feels like it has a bigger radius in the corners which if i lighty catch my nail on it it slips out a little easier than plain long pulls. I would have never noticed it if it wasnt pointed out.

Yeah so i was just looking at it under the light. The flat on the bottom is very skinny compared to a plain one. The side wall is actually completly chamfered with just the slightest bit of straight wall if any.

That makes a lot of sense. Similar to three long pull on the Shuffler. Interesting. I wonder if the #77 long pulls are like that also.
