Let's talk guns-I think I need a 1911 ;)

Sig makes a nice Tacops for under $1,000. Thin single stack grip, night sights, ambi safety, 4 mags. Show with VZ Grips. A nice Piece.

I have heard good things about Fusion but I must admit I have never held one. Everything I have heard and read about them has been very positive.

Garth

At least you've heard of it! It isn't a big name among the people I talk to...at least not yet ;)

Not custom, but I love it with all my heart. Bet you can't guess where i got the grips!

I have an idea lol. Nice gun ;)

Trust your gut, your'e gonna love one.

I'm hoping you're right.

BM .... you might want to consider a Colt 1911 XSE Gov't Model .45 acp similar to the one I have in attached photo. This pistol was produced a few years ago after Colt replaced all their old CNC machines with new ones, consequently the fit n' finish and closer tolerances make it a real bargain at around $1k. Now you have another $1k you can put into hand engraving the frame & slide giving you a beautiful, yet functional full size 1911. I also attached a sample of a hand engraved Colt 1911 for you to contemplate.

the Shadow

Whoa...you might have something with that engraving

Les Baer Monolith Heavyweight in .38 Super :)

Sti also make some great user 1911's.

IMO though 1911's are plentiful, why not look at something not seen as often like an original ex Swiss military Sig P210

Sti is a brand I wasn't familiar with. Thanks for introducing them to me (and the Sig P210. Sometimes you people's knowledge is too much for me)

Dan Wesson Les Baer WILSON Ed Brown

Any one of the above and you'll be a Happy Hog.

I'd be happy to own any of their guns!

I do have a friend who has several 1911s and he put together a Fusion from one of their kits and says it is amazingly acurte and reliable. Very cost-effective if you like to tinker a bit yourself. Regarding resale, the less you shoot a high-end gun the more it retains its value, so if you want to shoot it a lot that may make a difference for you. Are there any good ranges where you can rent several 1911s to get a feel for the differences? My 1911 is a butt-ugly Springfield GI model which I have totally customized myself over 15 years, and which I shoot better than any Kimber/SIG/Nighthawk I have been able to try except for an old Kimber Gold Match rental at a range which was like a freaking laser.

That's what I was hoping to read.

I don't plan on shooting it a TON. It will be a border-line safe queen/range gun.

Unfortunately, there aren't any ranges that I know of that offer such services :/

Okay, considering all the GORGEOUS 1911s in this thread, I'm going to be somewhat unpopular with this post.

I personally gave up ALL my 1911s when i finished modding my glock 22.

Once I put in the upgraded, all steel trigger, with over travel and pre travel adjustments, and got the trigger pull down to 3.5#, it shot just as smoothly as my Kimbers, but the recoil was lower, the followup shots were faster and the capacity is a major improvement.

All that said, if you're in love with 1911s, I personally love Sig and Dan Wesson weapons

Your Glock mods are one reason I sort of regret not going that route over the FNS. Not that it shoots badly in any way, I just like having the options..

I love the Glock pistol also but grab a stock Colt Government 1911 or Combat Commander.

That's the spirit!

Wilson Combat CQB, if we're talking the $2-$2.5k range. I've had one for about 14 years. (Paid around $1,400.00 for it new back then. Gun prices, go figure.) Best pistol I've ever owned, and I've owned quite a few. The Armor Tuff finally needed to be replaced so I sent it to Robar for their NP3+ a couple years ago. The NP3+ is a great finish as well, in my opinion.

A Wilson Combat would be nice if I could stretch my budget. I'll keep my eye out for them!

I've owned them all, I never leave the house without my Ed Brown Cobra..this one is full sized with the Ed Brown Bob Tail…1 of 2 ever made that I know of.
The Brown is many years old and he's been out with me every time I leave the house, never been cleaned up, she just wears nice.

I had a Wilson Super Grade and I traded it off…It felt "Stiff" compared to the Browns, I missed it so I ordered this one to replace it.
Just got it, the fit and finish is great..hope it shoots as well to…always wanted a 6" gun

I also ordered a 5" Stainless SuperGrade with the extreme melt down…I'll carry it too in another year or so when it's made ;)

That being said, for $2000 I would go on Gun Broker and start going to the Gun Shows and get an Ed Brown..this one is dirty and never misses a target. (most of which are moving in a fence row)
It is my go to gun.
I like Stainless but the two-tone Cobra Carry is super sexy up close.
I see two-tones go in the $1700 range

I also noticed that you seem to like the guns with a "Bob Tail" That BTW, is called an "Ed Brown Bob Tail" Get an original and forgo the Kimber, Springfeild, what ever crap…

Pay and cry once and never look back.
My 2nd choice would be a newer Wilson, the new Wilsons are as good as the older Wilson SuperGrades

Man...I like your taste! The new Wilson's are just wayyyy too expensive. The SuperGrades are 5K+?! Again, maybe some day.

Sig makes a nice Tacops for under $1,000. Thin single stack grip, night sights, ambi safety. A nice Piece.

That's an awesome looking gun for under $1000.

I'd love to get a Wilson one day. It's just going to be an NMFBM in import fees to Canada...

Come to 'Merica :D:thumbup:

I'll join you in that endeavor, but I'll have to sell some body parts if I plan on doing it any time soon.

STI is my personal choice for 1911s. I have 5 now and love them all. Also you can get most of them for around 1500.

This thread is giving me that itch to buy another gun. I have been good lately. Maybe I will treat myself to something nice soon.

Garth

After finally narrowing my list (I think) of post-graduation gifts to myself to a 1911, I would love to know what you HOGS would recommend ;)

The only brand I really find aesthetically appealing for whatever reason are those made by FUSION firearms. I'm hesitant to move forward and contacting them because I see several negative reviews. Does anyone have or know of anyone with first hand experience with their products? Beyond looks, the owner, Bob Serva, attended my alma mater (Penn State) and got his AAS.

BM

I too have done a good bit of research on 1911s for the past while. I have read a lot on 1911 forum, and it seems that the people that get a good gun from Fusion are extremely happy, but the ones that do get one with problems, even minor, seem to be ignored by Bob. I understand that anything mechanical can have problems, but it is how they are handled that makes the difference to me. The entire Busse Kin family with their guaranteed forever, and above and beyond for all of their extended family (customers) is not how everyone works, and I can understand that. But, ignoring issues for months, and having a "no complaints allowed" policy on their forum speaks volumes to me as far as how I might be treated if I did have an issue.

Bob S did work at Dan Wesson for a long time, so definitely knows his ways around the 1911, but there are a bunch of other companies that do as well.

If you are looking to stay in the 1000-1500 range, I would recommend 2 things.

1) Look for a used Baer, Brown, etc. I was in my LGS a while back and there was a guy in there selling some guns for financial reasons. The staff there knows me, and offered me one of them at a great price.

2) If you want new, look at Smith and Wesson. IMO they offer a great value for the price.

The 210 is a nice platform, and I like it a lot - but it is not a 1911 :-)

I really like my 2 Kimbers

I have two Old Skool circa early 70's Detonics combat masters that will be passed down in my "Will" I like that they fit in my back pocket and pack the .45acp punch. For everything else its a 15yr old Les Baer 2 new barrels....

Was kind of the point, 1911's are common. It can be nice to have something a little different from everyone else at times.

If you must have the most accurate handgun you can afford though, I'd still go with a tuned 1911 :)

The P210s (and the Sig X5s as well) are plenty accurate enough for handgun range as well... Beyond that I'll take a rifle any day.

Ok....didn't want to get involved since I'm not a 1911 owner.

But.... The S&W 1911sc E series is THE looker, my taste mind you. I know that it had its problems, when it was first introduced. I hope that S&W got it all worked out. Darn it!!! I lust after this one....

... Held one at a local shop last summer. Girlfriend was waiting in the car for me. The gun was the most comfortable that I've ever held. 1500$ Canadian. My GF notice a strange look on my face, as I entered my car . She asked me what the matter was. I told her and she answered " why didn't you buy it?"...... Is she sweet or what ? :)

2 reasons why I didn't get it... a) price at that moment.... B) most importantly was the bad press that it was getting at the time.

I started my 1911 collection with a colt 1911 series 70, then moved to a kimber cdp II, great gun light weight and super accurate. Then a Les Baer thunder ranch special it is amazing popping 2 liter bottles at 50 yards, and no jamming no matter what rounds I used. went with a sig desert scorpion for the latest. really good weapon but I keep going back to the Les Baer its the one I would stake my life on any day. so I sold the others and bought a 338 lapua in an accuracy international stock. that's one of the nice parts about firearms, you buy quality it keeps its value. and its more fun than stocks or bonds.
be sure to decide if you want a rail or not though. the after market add on rails I do not like personally.

Hey man...you deserve it! Whatever you purchase, be sure to include pics ;)

For the 10 minutes I spent researching FUSION I picked up on EXACTLY what you just described. I'm not so sure I'm willing to spend ~$2,000 on a gun and not feel confident in the company's customer service. That's why I like Busse so much :D

I'm not buddy buddy enough with any LGS to be informed of such great deals, but I like the idea of searching for used ones. I might even be willing to splurge for a new Ed Brown. We'll see. Like I said, part of me still wants to try Fusion because he went to Penn State, too.

In regards to something new: I just got back from Cabelas. Unfortunately, they didn't have any Smith and Wesson 1911s. It kind of surprised me, in fact. They had quite a few Ed Browns and a ton of Sigs and Kimbers.

What about red jacket firearms 1911? I hear it's a game changa :D

I can't tell if this is a joke or not lol. They make a 1911? I stopped watching the show based on them a longggg time ago. That show, like so many others, is ruined by unnecessary drama.

I looooove my kimber! Don't worry, none of my Busses saw me taking this photo

Nice stuff ya got there!

If you don't mind, what makes/models are those?

I really like my 2 Kimbers

Don't hear too many bad things about Kimbers. Now I'm leaning towards something more custom though. I can't decide!

Ok....didn't want to get involved since I'm not a 1911 owner.

That's a nice looking gun, no doubt about it. Sounds like you got yourself a winner in a girlfriend, too!

Thanks for your input. I don't really see any need for the rail. That was what a majority of the complaints I saw for Fusion were regarding.
