The blades look nice, but in the pics the handles look like they were poorly doneHow has no one mentioned R.J. Martin? His fixed blade kerambits are suweet.

TCBA Joe: I thought that's what you might be looking at. I think it's a "digital" thing-the weave of the material and the pixels. Anyway, the edges of the scales are chamfered nice and smooth. No offense taken!
the other system where the karambit is used is pentjak silat, from indonesia.
Anybody know of a good Kerambit tactics book? I got one by Tarani but he only gives defensive tactics as he said he doesn't want bad guys to learn how to use one to attack. In my thinking, only learning to wait for someone to attack you and then reacting is not a good way of surviving a vicious attack.

Does anyone out there have an opinion on what the best folding karambit is? I'm leaning towards the 5.11 one as its $90 but I keep getting drawn to the Emersons.
Both are quality Karambits, it's what feels good in your hands and having both I like the feel of the Emerson. Besides how it feels I also favor the wave feature of the Emerson's.
The 5.11 looks "wave-able" but no one has tried it yet so I won't be the first
Alright folks I finally broke down and joined the club. I had my brother pick me up a Spyderco Karambit at a gunshow for $90. Real great construction. I had to get him to get it since I knew I couldn't pay for the Emerson and that put it between the Spyderco and the 5.11. I figured the lock is probably better, blade's probably better, and the fact that it's discontinued and I've been starting to get the need for a Spyderco just pushed me over the edge.
Knife is really sharp, no surprise there. Handle is a bit slippery but that will hopefully wear off once the oil is off of it.
Any one here think I got a good deal? Should it be a safe queen or a user?
