hey Cul, that sounds great! Maybe you can teach me a few basics and I can show you Chinese archery if you'd like. The range we go to is pretty chill and no one has given anyone any trouble for having weapons other than bows and arrows. I've made plenty of equipment exchanges there.
That sounds great, but the staffs up here are going for $36 plus tax. I have not bought a staff in over 25 years, I've heard that a lot of the staffs know are treated, and are no longer totally "white", like the one below:

They now have dark spots in sporadic spots on the shaft, and especially on the tip. The one I saw online was that type. The ones online are only about $26 each, and they ship directly to you, which is very convenient.
I have spoken to my usual retired supplier, and he says that a place in Oakland, CA, may still carry the all white wax wood staffs. I just called and the owner says the cost is $36 each.
If you would like me to pick them up, I can, I need to know how many. Also, when do you want them by, because I do not know when the next person will be going down to SoCal, but somebody will surely drive down before the end of summer 2017. I will probably visit my brother in SD sometime before school starts for my daughter on 08/15/2017.
I would love to learn Chinese Archery, and I can surely show you the Choy Li Fut basics of staff handling. My specialty is hand forms, and swords/daggers, etc..., but I am decent with the staff/spear.
PS...Wax wood becomes extraordinarily beautiful after much use, my personal staff which I have used exclusively for over 30 years, at least twice a week for a minimum of 1/2 an hour, has resulted in the staff becoming as smooth and glossy as glass, and staining of the wood with natural body oils from my hands. It becomes a part of you after many years, and there is a blissful peace when handling "your" staff...
