The Spyderco Bob Lum, The benchmade Elishewitz and pardue tantos, the MT Socom Elite, the Emerson CQC7 tanto, the buck strider...Which is your favorite tanto bladed tactical folder and why?

The Emerson CQC-7b
Why?

All heavy-duty quality folders, all good choices
However, I trust my fingers daily to the Large Sebenza NICA Tanto integral lock.

Benchmade 722. Nothing beats the axis-lock for a strength in a folder. Plus it makes such a cool "snicking" sound when you open it.

Spyderco Lum ti tanto. I like its versatility: it is both graceful and functional. It's big and solid enough to take rambling in the woods, classy enough to be a "dressy" knife. I like that particular type of tanto blade; I think it's called "harucci", or something like that. I don't care for most of the other tanto configurations. Although, if I had the dough, I would give serious thought to buying a Strider GB. Anyway, the Lum tanto is great. I'm just kinda bummed that Spyderco has discontinued the version with the titanium scales. I love titanium, hate G10.

My Choices are:

Microtech SOCOM and Elite Tanto's
Benchmade Stryker
Buck Strider
MOD Razorback

Has to be the Microtech SOCOM ~ ~ plain edge old grind !

Awesome knive that is topped off with the multi-ground blade. . . What a wonder ! Hard to top perfection when you own one in the DA and one in MA ! ! :D

My favorite is the Buck Strider. Hands down. It has taken in incredible amount of abuse with absolutly no ill efect. This thing is "Bomb Proof". The only thing better in my opinion is a Strider Custom folder which is built like a frickin' tank.:D
I had a CQC7 and carried it daily for about 7 months (half of that while deployed). It was OK and held up well, definitly a high quality knife. Once I got the Buck Strider it became part of my must have equipment for the field.
I had an early Benchmade Stryker. Nice, tough knife. Unfortunatly it walked off.
I own a Large Sebenza and it's my EDC in civilian clothes. I absolutly love it. I could not however in good conscience carry the NICA tanto to the field if I had one. It' kind of like having a nice Land Rover. Could you take it four-wheeling and get it muddy? Sure,it's built to handle it. Would you wan't to get it dirty? Not really. That's what I have my Military "Humvee" (Buck Strider) for :)

The BM 910 Stryker gets my vote. The blade is much more versatile than one would tend to think. The handle is a marvel of ergonomics.

...The Cold Steel XL Gunsite. That is one LARGE folder that comes from the factory razor-sharp!.:).

Sog vision series-I have the zytel handle but they also come in g10 and titanium. ARC lock is great! Also a great chopper in a small package!

Although I'm a newcomer to the Forum, I'll wade in on this one...

My first Tanto folder was the Benchmade Emerson CQC-7. A terrific knife, especially since I could get a left-handed one (I'm a southpaw!) The chisel grind works just fine for me-probably better than for most righty's. I recently bought the real Emerson CQC-7 also in left hand. No QC gripes from me... It's a beauty!

My favorite Tanto folder however is the Emerson/Extreme Outfitters SOFCK. Not available as a Lefty yet (Ernie are you listening?!) But had it drilled (by EKI) to carry LH. Carries great, cuts even better, and opens in a flash with the Wave feature. My EDC!

of the ones mentioned the LAST one i would want would be an emerson cqc7 - the BM 970 - 975 is 2X the knife the emerson is - poor poor qc, a left hand ground chisel edge, and a blade that wont get sharp (enough for me anyway)overpriced, emerson seems to have qc probs w/this series, the commander, etc are much better knives imho - they dont seem to have the qc probs the cqc7 does - i just dont like them at all, though i love my BM 975 SBT.....ya outta get one of those if ya want a chisel edge tanto....

my fav tanto is the spyderco bob lum ti tanto, because the blade is ground on both sides(haraguchi grind or appleseed grind), the overall package is smaller than a cqc7, w/a longer blade - 10X the edc the emerson, or any chisel edge is .....

the CRKT m16's are ok too, just get one ground on both sides, not chisel edge....although my crkt stiff kiss is the only chisel grind i have ground right handed, go figure.....

MT are ok too, had a mini socom, also overpriced imho - just wasnt that impressed w/MT quality, etc - was ok, but not great...

OK, Cold Steel large tanto. A straight razor with a massive tip. Excellent steel, thin ground and scary sharp, ugly Zytel scales that are tough as rhino hide (or tougher), a very strong lock, flat profile... all you really need.

SOG Night Vision. I sold my 722 and haven't looked back. I'm not the biggest tanto fan but thought I should have one good tanto in the collection. I looked at everything out there and haven't seen any I like as much as the Vision. The Arc lock is hard to beat.

Mission MPF1 plain blade solid titanium. Beautiful lock up and Super Tough under any condition. Edge holding is OK not near as good as some of the better steels like cpm 440 v but it sharpens easily and is good to go in a flash. Oh and it looks F*****G cool!!!!

Jason / K man,
How do you like the Vision as an EDC? I am considering the Night Vision (G10 scales), but am not sure how "generally useful" the modified tanto style blade is (any of them).
Any comments?
Thanks,
Rob
