Letting other people use your knives...

I don't let anyone use my knives, period. My friends have already demonstrated that they have no clue how to properly use a knife many times, so they don't get to touch them.

If my friends don't get to use them, then strangers don't have a chance.

I hate it when people use a knife as pry bar or screwdriver. I always ask what they are going to use it for and if reasonable let them use my SAK. I'll try and educate them about the difference between a blade and a screwdriver. Only a few people get to use my Spydies or Benchmades.

I usually ask the person what they need done, and if it is REALLY a cutting task perform it for them.

For those on the fence - I always have a Vic SAK in my RR pocket as a backup, and I let them use that one for the cutting.

I hate to see any knife get damaged, but a Vic is much easier on the wallet to replace than a high end folder.

BTW - I had a friend once borrow my knife, then proceed to climb on a chair and use the butt end of the closed knife to beat on the metal tabs that are used to hold florescent light covers on. That was the last time I let anyone use my knife.
