And personal recommendations for a good solid leuku that can take a lot of abuse? I've been looking at a couple of pieces from Ragweed and the Roselli one looks pretty decent...and suggestions?

honestly, i have never been disappointed by any scandanavian blade. they are all, from my expirience, great performers. that being said, it really just boils down to which one agrees the most with your price point or which one looks the best.

koyote makes some great leuku esque knives. as far as production, kellam, roselli, helle, stromeng, bruseletto and even mora all have some awsome leuku patterns.

Just what do you mean by 'abuse'? Hidden tangs are not considered to be as strong as full tang so these should not be used as prybars. Carbon steel (Roselli) will rust if you don't observe the basics - I just wish he'd make a leuku in UHC.

Having said that - I have been impressed with all the scandi knives I've handled but I don't 'abuse' any of mine. They all seem capable of taking on a wicked eged too.

Koyote makes a great leukuu style bushcrafter ( wilderness mode 1) or full size leukuu's. I have one of the wilderness model 1's and am very pleased with it.

Bensbackwoods.com has a nice Leukuu/puuko set or the leukuu seperate from Jarveenpa and they are excellent as well.

Well, I've batoned my Jarvenpaa leuku through seasoned hardwood with no damage. Being .120" thick, I doubt it'd take much prying, but for everything else it's worked fine.

If you want a real bruiser in a leuku style blade, check out the Himalayan Imports Kumar Karda they run about .25" thick with anywhere from 7-11" of blade, depending on the particular one.

I used to have a Javanpaa' , I really beat the snot outta it..chopped and carved...great tool.

Another vote for Koyote. He has a differencial temper on his steel that can hold a great edge and take tons of abuse even at 3/32nds thick. He will make his blades thicker at request, but I wouldn't go over 1/8th. The Leuku I have from him is a great at 3/32nds.

Thanks for the tips guys! By abuse I just mean hard use like batoning and the like. I'm looking for a ritzier upgrade from my modified CS Bushman and the leuku seems like a very similar style. I'll have to give all of those pieces a look!
