I'm assuming this is a fake
What do you mean by that? What is fake about these knives?
unless the bk 2 was licensed to them which I'm 99% sure didn't happen..
Why do you believe these copies need to be licensed?
I'm pretty sure amazon can not do this so I thought I would show you all... if for some reason they can or this isn't technically a copy then information is welcome! went through the sellers other items and seems like he has more than just this one
It is a copy, but that doesn't necessarily makes it an illegal copy.
Knives in general are not protected by copyright laws, except in rare circumstances - unique, one of a kind artworks, or only part of the knife ie unique graphic ornaments on handles or blade, etc.
Knives can be protected either by design or utility patents for limited time period (15 and 20 years respectively). Neither of these protections apply to Becker BK-2 (that I know of after quick patent search).
Some unique design aspects of the knives can be protected by trademarks.
And of course, brand names and logos as well.
I could find only two registered and active trademarks related to Becker Knife and Tool
1.) Becker Knife & Tool (wordmark) and
2.) Becker Knives "work for a living" (wordmark)
There's no registered Becker Handle trademark (that I could find), although even unregistered, it enjoys some of the protections. That would be up to the courts to determine whether this handle copy is sufficiently different or if trademark protection would apply.
So, in short, these knives on Amazon are most likely legal copies. Not that I agree with that, but that's how it is.
Also, what you wrote can constitute a libel.
The best you can do is to notify Mr. Becker. He will most likely know if there's something that can warrant legal action.
As for me, I buy only original Beckers.
