Life lessons for the knife maker

Everyone around here has learned the hard way not to go out in the shop with out footwear.

Yep for sure. She was a little shy of rent money as hours had been cut at her job. She didn't expect us just to give her enough to get by she came up and earned it. She likes to cut out blanks. She loves to profile blanks but not keen on drilling tang holes for reasons mentioned.

Mom likes to saw out blanks too but won't profile or drill. She does like to help me put the bolsters on though:

I just learned the importance of quality belts for the belt grinder. I've been using a couple different ones (apparently all awful) but i finally got a cubitron 984f belt and tried it today, steel was flying off compared to the other belts i have used.
Probably not a big lesson for most people but huge for me, considering it took maybe 1-2 hours to rough grind a 7inch chef knife before and like 10-20 minutes now... boy do i feel stupid.
