Question gentlemen....

I've 2 custom PC Balisongs with blades ground by Jody Samson, a WeeHawk and a Bowie. Both have seen considerable flipping and use, and show the consequent wear in the usual places considering there's no latch gate. I would love to have these refurbished by Benchmade. In the collective's opinion, do you think that this would be a good idea and the results would be on par with Jody's work ? Thanks in advance..

if you are a strict collector you would not have your old customs resharpened or repolished or retightened. but then again it sounds liek you have these 2 customs as users. So it woudl be a good idea to send them to be fixed up .. it is just gonna take longer nowadays.

Personally If i can standf the wait I send mine in for refurbishing

Susan is entirely correct.

An art collector would rather have what is left of Monet's own work be it cracked, chipped, damaged, etc., than have any contemporary technician's attempt to "fix" it. Jody Samson's work is really unique. A experienced eye can see his grind a mile away. It can't be duplicated. So, if you're collecting these balisongs, then leave 'em alone.

But, if they're users, get 'em fixed up.

Now, this brings the question of what are these balisongs: keepers or users? Well, if they're very damaged, their value as collectibles may be seriously degraded already. You may get more enjoyment and more value out of 'em by declaring 'em users and going to it.

Thanks Sniper and Chuck.
Neither of these blades have seen nearly as much actual usage as they have been flipped. The blades are actually in fine shape with unscratched finishes. The blade tip of the bowie is flattened very slightly from latch contact. Interestingly, the finer point of the Wee Hawk is virtually unaffected from even more flipping than the bowie. A difference in RC hardness perhaps.

The latches on both are heavily stippled, and need work, but my main concern about the QC of LifeSharp's service lies in the aspect of having the edges minimally sharpened and polished.
I still plan to take them for walks occasionally, but I'll probably not flip or use them anymore. If any of you have had good or bad experience with Benchmade's LifeSharp service, please post or e-mail me with info. The turnaround period I don't care about. Thanks
