Greetings you all:)

I carry my Delica 3/SE most often because of the sheeple factor:barf: . However my most favourite Spydie is and will always be my fully serrated Military.

I asked a similar question before on the Spydercoforums but I would very much like to hear more opinions about it.

How long do you think would a Military last in terms of wear of the serrations, lock and the such. I'm not an abuser nor do I extreme cutting with it.

I often read stories about a FRN Delica/Endura serving wel for 15 or so years so I think a Military should beat that(or at least equal it)

Riight now I'm in the process of buying back ups of my favourite knives, so I would very much like to know how much Milies I have to buy to be set for a good while should I change my mind and trade my Delica for my Mili.

I hope you can help me out on this.

I have to get myself one of those.....
I would imagine a SE Mili lasting quite a while. I've seen photos of old user Military's still going strong after 10+ years. best of luck

At that rate of non-abuse, I'd say your best bet is to have your kid's name engraved on your Millie back-up when you do get it.

I am one of those who has been carrying an Endura for 14-15 years. I still carry it now. The clip broke off years ago(it was a plastic molded clip), but other then that it keeps on cutting. I haven't pried with it, but I have cut open cans, sandbags, and I cut a motor mount in half one time. It still saws through cardboard like crazy, and it is only G2 steel. It has traveled the world with me. I am thinking about retiring it, and picking up a ZDP-189 fully serrated Endura, but I haven't decided yet.

A Military should last 3-4 times as long, easy. If you use the knife, as a knife, it will last. Check back in in 15 years and let us know how your Military is holding up. :)

Lifespan of Military with backup: I carry my Millie with a Dodo for the small stuff. The two working together should as long as I do. OK, if I wanted to be sure, I'd get another Millie.

Oh, I did, the BG-42/carbon fiber ...

D3/SE, go for it. Pick up one more Military.

I Don´t think it should beat that. Linerlocks in general won´t last as long as backlocks. The reason is linerlocks lock via friction and backlocks with their form. Friction wears the metal down over time, especially a titanium liner on a blade of hardened steel. The lockbar head (hardened spring steel) will next to nothing wear in the blade because there is hardly any friction in the lock. In backlocks friction is only between the rounded part of the blade tang and the lockbar head which has nothing to do with the lockup and would wear down the head only maybe in centuries. I assume that the lock that beats the endurance of a backlock is still to develop.

Nevertheless I also assume that the Mili (with steel liner) is under the longest lasting production linerlocks ever made if not the best of them.

Best wishes,
JB

J.B.,
But it is a Spyderco liner-lock. :)
Does anyone have an ATS-34 Military that the liner lock has failed on?? The first Military?? With the 2 screw clip. Just wondering.

There isn't a lock around that will outlast a well made lockback. (right now anyway) Plain physics.
