Light 30-30 loads for small game.

I was thinking of the Accelerator loads as well. I don't think tracing had very much to do with it being discontinued. It was never a good seller and accuracy suffered horribly from the sabots. If I was going to use my .30-30 in this manner, I would carry some of the 125gr and plan on head shots. Yep, too much gun, but I don't reload anymore. Even when I did, I would stick with published loads. I am fearful of lodging a bullet somewhere in the bore and not realizing it. Almost happened once with a smokepole I had.

If memory serves the biggest reason the Accelerator didn't last was they were expensive, they were also not as accurate as a dedicated varment rifle.
Your scope needed to be resighted each time you switched between Accelerator's and standard ammo.
the Accelerator came in 30/30-223 sabot
308 win.-223 sabot
30/06- 6mm & 223 sabot
I remember the 30/06 at nearly 4000 fps being very impressive when hitting water filled gallon milk jug's

I have used the round balls in a 45-120- using both corn meal and dacron as filler to locate the powder directly over the primer for consistant burn. Fun but not somethign I would do alot of, twist rates and rifling are designed for jacketed bullets or at least lubed hardcast bullets with gas checks. Leading gets bad with soft naked round balls- I even used greased wads to soften the black powder residue.

Lighter weight FMJ bullets with starting velocity loads listed in manuals make good small game rounds.

I have often thought a scaled down Rolling Block in .357 would make a wonderful long term bush rifle for versatility and durability. .357 in a 20" barrel packs a wallop for medium game and light 148gr wadcutters are nice small game medicine.
