Wow, some real nice sets of combos for the woods posted here lately.

Here are my interpretations of a light and mid weight woods trio.

The first lighter and smaller set is comprised of a GB Mini, a Luc Burnley ARU (All Round Utility), and a Leatherman Juice S2.

The mid weight set has a GB Wildlife Hatchet, a Dozier Delta Traveler, and a Victorinox Mauser SAK.

Sorry these are in thumbnail :o. If anyone can tell me how to post as a larger image through iphoto I would appreciate it. Thanks for looking!

ADD,

Can't help you out with the photos, but I like the gear pics you have posted. That is some pretty woods-worthy looking gear.

very nice blades....

i love that lucas burnley... i need to get one of his knives, one of these days...

Nice kit and great pictures. I like maps as a background.

As far as the pics, click on the thumbnail, when it opens in a different window, copy the URL in the address bar. Then click "Insert Image" (on your original message page) and past the URL there. There you have it. ;)

Like so:

Med is the way I go, I guess my wetterlings was found in Alberta so thats getting sent home, my nimravus and Vic huntsman. Works everytime. :D

Really like that Lucas Burnley. Other than a MySpace link I couldn't find a direct point of contact for him. I would like to add one of the All Round Utilities to my user collection. Does anyone have his email or webpage address available?

Tarmix, thanks for the help.:) Let me try here...

Fonley, yes if weight is not an issue I take the the largest stuff I can.
But, taking off on a trail with just a waist/fanny pack on, the GB Mini will fit INSIDE of it.

Raindrop, I will get his info and post it for you. :)

Better shot of the Dela Traveler from the shop of a living knife legend, Bob Dozier.
D2 of course, hollow ground with simple classic lines in African Blackwood.

A couple more from Luc. Lots of stuff going on here. Multiple grinds, filings for the small choil and thumb ramp, recessed handle slabs for better purchase on sideway cuts. Bead blast and 154 cpm.

Actually, after looking at these it is a great contrast of makers. Dozier has been around forever, what a history. Luc is 24 or 25? Used to make jewelry I think, now has focused his creativity on knives. From kitchen parers to tactical stuff.

Rats, can't seem to post as a large image. I am sure it is simple... just not real literate with computers.

I wanted to ask about that, what type of chopping ability does it have. In other words what would you compare it too blade length wise? 7",8",9" blade? the size of that hatchet is amazing to me, do you like it?

Nice tools! I liked this one:D

If you don't mind me asking what kind of camera do you have, the pics are great!

Light: Mora 2000; Gerber Sportsman's Saw; SAK

Medium: Kostner Bushcraft (or . . . .); Silky Pocket Boy saw; Gerber Juice Pro

Heavy: Crowell & Barker Chopping Knife; Marbles No. 9 Axe; Gerber Juice Pro

(But I'd really just add an axe or my 17" Gelbu Special to the Medium package. I would not like to lose the functionality of a 4" knife or the pruning saw.)

I love the Mauser!! I think it is nearly the perfect camp knife. Two blades: one clip point blade for camp chores and a spear point blade for food prep. The combination can opener/wood saw works great. The awl is amazing, one of the best awls I have seen on a folder. This is not a wimpy folder, either. The mauser has heft and great slip-resistant scales.

Great choice on including the mauser. I think that knife should be in everyone's camp pack. You won't regret carrying it.

one of my lightweight trios is:

- kabar Kukri
- Jimmy Lile Duxback spearpoint hunter
- Victorinox single blade OHT or a Parker BigHorn jackknife.

Raindrop, Luc's site is burnleyknives.blademakers.com
Many models are not on there and he has a mailing list for when he completes a run of knives. Mostly works in small batches in a particular model. Mine was purchased from a member here. I think he is doing some wicked skeltonized neckers right now.

Fonley, I read how small the Mini was before I got it but was still amazed at the size when I first picked it up. If I had one small tool to bring for survival this would be it. The GB Wildlife easily out chops it because of length, weight, and geometry though. Lots of info in the Axe and Hatchet subforum here. Sorry, I have never used or compared it to a large bladed knife in the chopping department.

Lotoblades, the camera is actually my son's Canon video camcorder. :o He just recently showed me how to take pics with it.

Cool Hand, yes I really like the Vic Mauser. It has seen a lot of use. Must be 10-15 years old. Thick and chunky. The saw blade you mentioned has the best machined staggered teeth I have seen on a SAK. Anyone know if these are still being made or a link? Here is a more prominent shot of it.

Bushman, do you have a pic of the Lile? :)

ADD,

Thanks for the kind response and providing the contact information.

Also in regards to your question about the VIC Mauser, they are to the best of my knowledge ONLY available on the secondary market. New / collectable versions are bringing as much as $100 each on a well known auction site. I happen to share your opinion on the Mauser and have a "couple" of them in my backcountry rotation.

Thanks again,

Greg

You have some great set ups there man! I like your blades especially that burnley knife-sweet! I really like Bob Dozier designs he seem to nail it right for outdoor use. My only question is why does he seem to always use D2?

very nice photos.

a couple of days ago, i carried these:

the mora in the pack on this trip, the other two are my EDC knives

the mora and a folding saw
DSCN4413.jpg

my set up is very lightweight. apart from my edc knives, i am only really packing a few ounces more in blades. on the dayhikes a couple of days ago i also had a two layer vic, and a folding camp cutlery set.

if i really wanted to save the weight, i have confidence in this set as my only sharps:
