Light Brigade Nuclear Meltdown Straight Handle Battle Mistress

I'm waiting to see what the specs will be on this one. I even decided to hold off on ordering a TGLBS until I see this version of the SHBM.

BTW, as an aside, what is the appeal here with the straight handle over the normal BM? Is it more ergonomic/comfortable/etc.?

Thanks

As far as handles go, I don't think there is a "normal" Battle Mistress, but I think the straight handle was the first one.

Right, but I'm curious if someone who has both can say whether the SH is preferable to the non-SH BM or the other way around and for what reasons. Sure some of it will be subjective, but I'm guessing at least one or two differences will be pronounced.

Thanks

That being said however, I cant believe I have 2 Busse already, paying for one more on Monday and working on a Gladius...should be in my hands within 2 months.

Got it... I don't have both, but I've handled a Fusion a few times. Something that's hopefully less subjective and more objective is that the Fusion handle has a curve at the pommel that, if you were to grip it by the very end, angles the blade forward a bit, giving it more chopping power. Other than that, I've noticed more people like the Fusion handle than the straight handle for users, though the straight handle is revered for one reason or another... probably because of its rarity and age.

See for me, I like users. So after what you've shared I'm thinking the Fusion would be the way to go. I mean the TGLBS isn't out of the question yet...just a few things I'm not thrilled about with it...but that's for the other thread.

Thanks for the info.

I think both work for me. I find that it is the handle slabs themselves that make more of a difference than the actual handle itself. I do prefer the compactness of the SH handle, but as long as the right micarta shape is there, they both work well for me. The SH handle definitely puts more forward weight balance than the fussion. Overall the SH feels more balanced to me. Since I tend to throw my knives when I am bored, the SH handles tend to make it easier to throw than the fussion. But throwing is for fun not significant in any way.

Need this to come out ASAP cause I have yard work to get started. Trimming rose bushes and such.

No kidding. This is the only impending Busse Combat release that I'm excited about. Make it happen Jerry! :D

Stand in line.
Some of us are still waiting for the Anorexic Assault Shaker (not to mention the knife that folds!!! ;)) :D:D

Ahhhh the mythical folder..... I think Jerry is gonna hang on to the only one and not put it into production....... that way he will always have something to tease us with :)

Anyway Jerry said not to expect the LBNMSHBM until after the new year.... So I believe that translates into 2 weeks right?

And in the meantime we can scrap over the Magnum Cubs

bring it bring it bring it !

(together with a payment plan - or somebodies organs i could sell :P )

I have no experience with this; but I've read that the straight handles gave folks what is called the "Busse Pinky"(?)...it's my understanding that the Ergo and Fusion were improvements on the straight handles. In fact, the BWM LE seems to be pretty much a SHBM blade with a fusion-esque handle, which I understand is an improvement. For your purposes, it sounds like you're looking for one of the later handles. But take this with a grain of salt; because I'm relating it third hand and not from experience.

I agree completely ... the SH's have a great balance and the shape/thickness of the micarta grips is the "key" to the knife feeling "right" ... the BWM LE is the closest I have come to in the balance of the SH ... but I prefer the compact SH grip ...

The asymetrical edge SHBM was one of Jerry's first knives ... and IMO his best ...

A Battle Mistress is a Chopper. seems your after more of a fighter. A BWM or a CGBM iss a Nice, Light chopper in the BM Lineup
