Light Chopper (prototype)

This is fantastic!!! I am definately in for one of these Nathan. Your tweaked 3V heat treat has us all very excited. Hope I get the opportunity to shark one of these bad boys when they pop up! Thanks for being such a great innovator and giving the knife community so much to look forward to!

The voices in my head told me to do it
Probably gonna do a small EDC type thing next.

Lol, classic!
Wrt small EDC type things, what do you people like in something like that?

Good stuff Nathan, I'd love to be notified of the development on this chopper and your other work and how to pick up one of your knives when available. I saw your HT comparison video on the Survive! sub-forum and appreciate what you're doing for the knife community. Thanks!

What do you mean you people?:eek: ;)

For me, something 3-3.5" blade length choilless or small sharpening choil. 6.5-7" o/a length that I could carry traditionally, scout carry, or throw in the pocket and be concealed enough to always have on me.

With the corrosion resistance of the 3v being so good with the latest heat treat, would love to have 3v on something like this too. .125-.140" blade thickness. Saber, hollow ground drop point. Crazy slicy sharp, but still have some minor prying if needed. Micarta and/or terotuf handles please.

Or

Whatever you guys come up will be amazing I'm sure. Really dig your designs.

I on the other hand despise choils.. <--more than hate

As far as your design... he already has a 6 inch field knife.. not just the little 4"? slicer..

not sure if it has a choil on it tough..

Have you seen that one? Is that the one you have now? Or do you have the smaller ones with the little pry bar on the end?

1st rough prototype in 3V. Got this finished today for tomorrow...

Looks great.

I like the modifications to the handle.

So, just the one for sale tomorrow? That will be a frenzy...

Its so obvious when someone has taken the time to think the practicality of the knife thru... That thing looks awesome just the way it is.. I actually like that kefellerazed handle you did.. but like you said still give people the option to have it thicker..( or who know maybe after using it, I might like the original Lorien slim grip, my hands are kinda small) to me its perfect the way it is.. maybe a little more shine on the blade IMO, for the final product.. Im not a huge fan of the satin or sand blast finish.

I just hope whoever gets it, tests it out properly, and posts some high res pics on here.

In case whoever gets this, doesnt an idea on how to properly test it, heres an idea:

#1. Start in the kitchen, vegetables, meat, etc..

#2. Paper, cardboard , rope, etc..

#3 Brush clearing, etc..

#4 Easy grain wood i.e. 2x4, show the edge after, upclose please.

#5 Baton logs 3-4 inch , (perhaps even intentionally knotty wood) shows the edge upclose again.

#6 Baton 5-6 " logs, show the edge again.

#7 Maybe chop thru a 8-9 inch log laying flat, show the edge after again.

#8 This one is optional. If youre brave enough, chop thru some sheet metal or aluminum bar, doesnt have to be to thick.. show the edge after.

#9 Try shaving paper with it again.. One thing that irks me when people do this, is that they use the first 4 inches of the blade closest to the handle to baton with, then when they cut paper, they use the very top 3 inches.. this is cheating.. use the same part you batoned with.

Also, it wouldnt really matter if you stropped the blade, (but no actual sharpening) before or after you do this as well.. Not really cheating in my view..

This is what I like to see from knives that are supposed to be users.. and not collector safe queens.
