Hey.

I'm looking for a new, lets call it EDC folding knife, I really don't really like carrying knives because they weigh to much so I'm looking for something that not heavy, preferably spring assisted.

Any tips? :)

A little more info would help, what do you do for a living, what are you going to use it for, how much can you spend, what you like? So far all I how is you want a light AO knife, I can't do all the work for you than it would be the knife I like geared towards my use and finances.

I work at a factory so at my job I already have a knife. But I want something outside or work. Hmm $100 max. I don't really like them Spyderco design, I'm more geared towards something straight, maybe 4 inch blade. Color doesnt matter. Something light.

Kershaw seems to have the market on AO knives at the moment, with CRKT having a nice selection also. My problem is any knife with a 5" blade is goin' to be heavy to start with, a 5" blade unless it's skeletonized or made with nonmetallic blade has a lot of mass and consequently a bit of weight to start with, that's not even takin' into consideration that you want it to be AO or the handle.

You may want to reevaluate your criteria to something more feasible.

You mean straight edge like a warncliffe? Or you can look at some traditional slipjoints. Otherwise, how about a ZT0770 (~$120 but shows up at the Exchange in your specified price range)?

A lightweight, 5" blade folder? Uhhh... good luck finding something within those parameters. There really aren't that many 5" folders out there to begin with. My first thought for long and on the lighter side of things would be the ZT 0452. It's relatively light being that it's titanium and carbon fiber. 4.1" blade so I guess that doesn't meet your requirement. It's also a flipper and not assisted. But that flipper mechanism will get that blade open just as fast if not faster than AO. It's also bit more than $100. But I'm also pretty certain you're just not gonna find a $100 5" folder. If you want very little weight and lots of capability and performance, I'd suggest the Benchmade 53X series. Specifically the 531. Super slicey and weighs only a couple ounces.

Here's the ZT0770CF, personally I like it but it's a little north of your $100 mark.

Cold Steel Kudu. Long and light. Not assisted, but if you tune the back spring, you can pinch the blade out, flick it open, and play quite the rudeboy. Last time I looked, about $6.00. Six bucks.

I know you said no Spyderco but the endura may be your best option. Its a very light weight cutting tool and almost 4 inches.

SOG flash 2 seems that it would fit for you. It's assisted, lightweight, and it has over a 3inch blade

Check out a Kershaw Knockout maybe. If you can add to the money spent then check out a ZT0804CF or ZT0452CF.

At 2.1 oz, my Benchmade 531 is lightest thing I own. The small thumb stud takes some getting used to but that is not a problem. It is not assisted but with the Axis lock you don't need any sort of assisting clutter.

Bench made Mini Griptillian is fine, a bit smaller but carries easily, may be a bit more costly than you're seeking. There is the regular Griptillian, with @ a 3 1/2" bladeThe Cold Steel American Lawman is larger and not too heavy, but solid, and is a $50.00 workhorse, but not a flipper. I happen to have a Zero Tolerance 0560, it is quick to open, and a 3 3/4" blade, OAL 8 13/16", it's very nice, and I could be persuaded to part with it. Happy searching, you'll find the right one eventually!
