I'm looking for one person shelter suggestions. I want something light weight and quick to setup, that will protect a single person from heavy rain or snow fall. The lighter the better, as I prefer to cover lots of ground when out by myself.

Hey Vivi,

Take a look at the Integral Designs Sil-Shelter. Weighs less than a pound, folds down to the size of a pop can, and provides better enclosure than a regular flat tarp.

I took my time setting it up here with external poles but it is designed to be pitched with a single trekking pole.

I concur with FLIX...the ID products are tops if you do not want a reflective warming fire. I have their 5 x 8 tarp and like it a lot for this purpose...same thing folds up the size just under a traveler's mug or large roll of salami.

If you ever plan on any fire near it then get away from sil.

I use a treated nylon 5'x8'...it isn't near as light and it bunches up just a wee bit larger than the sil tarp from ID. But it is substantially much more spark resistant. It will get a hole or two in it if you get carried away putting a bunch of pitch wood on a fire (don't ask me how I know) but at least it is repairable and won't burn up around me!

I'm not sure what the brand of this tent is, I borrowed it from a buddy of mine. I don't have the rain fly up in this tent, but there was just enough room for me and my pack.

The rain fly also has a vestibule so there would be room to keep more gear dry, but outside of the tent.

Nevermind the blue tarp, I needed something in a pinch :)

Inormally just use a usgi poncho..it's light and tough..my buddy just gave me a bivybag for Christmas..I'll be testing it out in the next few weeks for sure.
