the axis lock and axis assist are two different mechanisms. the 960 has a normal axis lock. it is a manual knife. i think you will like the axis lock. and with regards to the price i couldn't say. but considering BM new enforcement of the MAAP pricing it sounds like a good deal. the bottom line is that if you like the knife and you think it will serve your and it is in your price range get it.
Axis alone does not assist the opening of the blade, but rather refers to the type of lock which the knife uses. Axis-assist adds the spring to assist the opening. Personal preferences abound of course, but I am a fan of the Axis lock. It is a simple design and provides a very secure lockup, imho.
Thanks redbike. It is in my price range, I was just wonering about the lock, I have found that I dont care for any other assisted opening systems other than Kershaw's and I really dont want another A/O anyway. Thanks again everybody.
The axis lock is very fast to open - it is also the fastest knife I know to close and put away. This could be useful if it is a work knife that you will pull out use and put away in your pocket a number of times a day
I prefer the bm 940 for my lightweight carry. I have a 943 on order it's a bit lighter due to different blade shape. I like all the Osborne models I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. At first I didn't like the looks of the spydercos but now I have a lot of them. I sometimes carry a sage2 or caly 3(these don't have the spyderco designs on them that I didn't care for, such as on a frn delica).
Is BM discontinuing the 960? I bought one earlier today (in red because I couldnt find any silver) but a lot of the dealers are saying its discontinued.
