Hello All,

I am an urban dweller, limited to a deck to do any knifemaking. i need a grinder that is light enough to carry onto the deck, grind, then carry back in, so it has to be light and, I think, have a motor that is easily separable. I am considering the Coote and the Suremak - any thoughts on these or other potential candidates?

Thanks so much,

John

Thanks for the Clontz link. I`m afraid it is hard to get reasonably priced machining where I am (Toronto) so I need more of a turnkey solution.

What is your background, budget, and your available equipment? These will really help us get a starting point.

I would look into building one, as it may save you hundreds. As a second chance, the Pheer327 grinder is an excellent grinder, and it is fairly light(once the motor is detatched).

I am a beginner, in an urban Toronto apartment, so making my own, or having one made is not going to happen. I have a 1x30 that tracks poorly, for sharpening, as well as an Edge Pro. I have sharpened knives for years but want to make some now.

Budget is one of those chicken and egg questions, for me. I am not going to spend $2,000, but want to know how much a lightweight, high quality grinder will cost.

Thanks

John

The coote is a good grinder and not very heavy.Good intermidate grinder.
