Like a Ka-Bar, But Better?

I personally believe anytime a knife like a Kabar is needed a Kabar is the knife to get. Having said that the SOG Super Bowie is pretty nice but it might start a steel debate. You can find them well under $200.
I still think a Kabar is the way to go. Then you don't have to stand 15ft away from it.

Or from Fox Knives the Marine Combat ( no fuller ) which comes in the traditional brown leather or all black leather.....7.25" 440C blade @ $100 give or take......

Now THAT is a beautiful Kabar style knife!

+1 for the TGLB. It may not exactly be a kabar look alike but will outperform and chop any standard kabar in half. You guys can take what you want....I'll gladly take my $490 with sheath TGLB and know it will do any task imaginable. It IS the ultimate fixed blade. I too use to think BUSSE knives were overpriced hunks of junk....til I got one....best knives made.

Gee...and at only 10 times the price. What a bargain! Think I'll rush out and get one. LOL

I agree, the Busse's are expensive but I would like to try out something from the SYKCO line which is somewhat more affordable. Or a Ratmandu, just to see what the hype is about.

The OP had certain criteria that he wanted met.....so help there with suggestions ......so not to derail the thread.

Though he did already make a choice a thread like this could be useful to someone else do long ad it sticks to the original requirements.

Tho' I can't afford a Busse, I Received my first Busse Kin in the mail yesterday, SYKCO Parkerized, 7 1/4" Regulator. Haven't had time to put it through it's paces, but by look and heft, I don't feel I'd have much trouble dismantling a school bus. ;') First one on the page, Regulator with Black Resiprene C Handles:

I also have a Ratmandu. ..it replaced my Benchmade CSK.....although still not kabarish....these do the job very well for around $168 without sheath.
Ichor- you sound so much like me years ago before I started putting money into knives. I love my old TOPS knives, lived in the woods for a week with only a standard issue kabar from my father when I was a kid. After researching and seeing what BUSSE was all about....they are more than worth the money. Plus you get a warranty that nobody on earth can touch. Back to that kabar like knife...the earlier post about the Strider cmfk is a great knife also.....good luck finding one in 3v.....they are out there...just hard to find....even saw one on here before.

Back on topic......Vehement Knives 101'er .....there tribute to classic knives

I wonder how that thing would do when taking a beating from a baton to the pommel? Can you lash it to a long stick as a spear? $400 isn't bad at all I think. But what do I know.........I know I want a knife in the field that can take a beating, lash to a stick for a spear, and tons of other things.

This has always puzzled me somewhat. Why exactly would you ever need a spear? And if you actually had a use for one, wouldn't it make more sense to go with a much less expensive choice, like a Cold Steel Assegai? You could even buy a CS Boar spear for less than 100 bucks. I have a CS Bushman, cause it was a cheap, tough, versatile knife, but I have never had occasion to use it as a spear, even tho' the design allows that without any lashing. Still available for 25 bucks or less.

Cuz spearz be awesome! And if he wants a knife first and spear second, then he gets the best knife he can that also be a spear. But I do agree with you on the Bushman, even if it's not the best knife out there.
