Like, dude! Nice hatchet work!

Why?
Alot of times people are not who and what they seem. By most accounts Ted Bundy was a nice guy.
This young hitch hiker is capable of extreme violence, but it is channeled right. What would you have done?
He is no coward. He did what was right.

I think you already answered it. It is channeled right for now, but I doubt the stability of that.

There's also the nonchalant manner he recounted the "killing" of a man by smashing his skull with a hatchet. Oh, and even more casual was the time he smashed in the face and knocked out all the teeth of some other dude in a orchard.

Then you've got inconsistencies, OH, like the fact that he didn't kill the guy. I'm not saying he did the wrong thing. I rarely leave the house without a concealed handgun, so you can guess what I would have done. However, I would view it as a very serious and downright sad thing that I had to use lethal force against another human being. Like I said, he scares me a little, but I never said he was wrong.

His references to smashing makes it sound like he hit the guy with the poll, which makes me think Vec was really onto something with the trailing mass approach to using a hatchet/hawk as a weapon.

Sounds like there maybe more to this story. He will beat it....long trial at taxpayers expensive. If this victim/abuser was just helping dude out I feel for his family. Defense is sure to be that he was a chicken hawk who picked on the wrong guy. Jmo

If his story is true, I don't blame him for what he did!
I sure as h!! wouldn't convict him if I was on the jury.
Sounds like the perv got what he deserved!!!

"If his story is true" why did he not call the cops? Why roam around visiting friends for a couple of days before being picked up?

Not that we ever know all the details in these stories but his actions are much less than rational.

Well seems you maybe right. Killed a guy. Maybe more?
Can't help but think the guy had it coming though. We will see how it all shakes out.

Hooking is used to pull your opponent off balance so you can smash him without him smashing you back.

I was going to say, that axe fighting is not a simple as "smash, smash, smash" unless your fighting a slow zombie.

If some one is trying to smash you back, hooking might just help you keep from being smashed your self. Arm, leg, neck, shield........

It this case- not much of a fight from a 74 year old man laying in bed.
What erks me is, I just finished forging out a small hatchet for pack/belt carry where a tomahawk would cause alarm.
Now everyone will be on the look out for Hatchets of mass destruction.

More seriously, living on the street has been proven to increase psychosis. Lack of sleep/ insecurity and often violent encounters effect mental state. I've also read that 95% of homeless carry cutting tools for protection.
Thank about that before you pick up a hitchhiker or bring a homeless person home to help with the yard chores.
This kid may even have a PTSD defence.

Did I miss a thread on your new hatchet? I'd like to see it.
Still evaluating, 1 1/4 lbs head /4140 / parkerized on the bbq grill / standard 13"scout handle and quick kydex mask.
Want to forge some for my boys - going to use mild steel body with high carbon bit. Will take more WIP photos next time.
