The scales turned out to be a bit too small to run safely on the equipment, it was a tight mill from the start, so they are hand sanded or left rough. Otherwise, I got every bit I could out of this spectacular piece of wood for you...

Brent... Thank you for your interest. No, this wood is not plastic pre-stabilized. It is natural old dry wood and it is quite stable already. You can finish it as you like when ready. Below are a couple of methods you can try... Kully

Easy Stabilizer 1: Sand to near final size, soak in clear acrylic (floor finish), dry, final sand, wax and buff.
Easy Stabilizer 2: Sand to near final size, soak in clear polyurethane, dry, final sand, wax and buff.
Natural Finish: Sand to final size, oil with boiled linseed oil, dry, finish sand, wax and buff. (green)
