Like New True Temper Kelly Perfect 3.5lb

No need to get your knickers all up in a knot! I was quite impressed with your pristine axe, and that True Temper display item. We generally bandy about and comments made aren't meant to denigrate anyone. It's your axe and if you chose to tighten it up with a newer type wedge, so what.

What he said...I have garnered so much knowledge from this forum and form everyone's input, don't know anywhere else you can get it!

The round wedge was a surprise to me.

Yeah. Something's up with that. It's been re-hung for sure. That haft might be the original but that round wedge isn't.

other than the round wedge I added, what do you see that makes you think think it has been "re-hung"

Just the round wedge. It's not illegal to do that but it's ill advised. It's hard to fathom doing that to an original haft. I understand that you didn't know better. But you just left some cash lying on the table.

bullshit like what you just said is exactly why I have only 36 posts since 2013. haha
I understand that you didn't know any better, what kind of comment is that?????
you all like to pick fights on here. I have been rifling through posts what a mess this site is poor mods to say the least
just a bunch of arrogant knife nerds with nothing better to do than spew poor advice and insult people along the way.

the axe is safer with a wedge period. hey square peg round hole thanks for all your enlightenment, but I'll pass.

Yeah, you're right. I shouldn't have said that so harshly. Please accept my apology.

I've found that old axes survive. There are lots of them around. Old hafts are rarer than hen's teeth. When I find one I try to preserve it the best that I can.

Appreciate you taking the time to make it right, most dont. Accepted. I understand your position on haft, I am never selling this axe so the sale value isnt important to me.
temper tantrums over, as we were.

Good show! Now get out there and scout out some more stuff for us to drool over, and snap at you for.

Found this today at an estate sale and thought I would share it since it is such good condition.
Im not sure of the age on this one?

At least your's has had some use! The real dilemma with NOS or pristine stuff (for most of us, and me for sure) is the aversion to then putting such a tool to use. Heaven forbid I ever stumble upon an NOS Black Raven or some such and then have to find an axe to chop away a large tree that fell across the road on the way home from that purchase.

His position on the haft was this: Old collectible axes with the original paint and haft are super-rare and should be preserved as historical documents and not used. An axe, or any collectible in this shape is a lot more important than the person who owns it. For someone to take a piece of history such as this axe and drive that round wedge into it was a shame because it can not be undone. I have a few old axes with original hafts, and the heads are a bit loose but I could care less because I am not going to use them, I have lots of other axes in User condition that have replacement handles, no original paint or labels and have been ground and sharpened. It was a rookie move to drive the wedge into this axe, and it would be a rookie move to use it and screw it up even more.

Square-Peg did nothing wrong at all trying to inform someone who did not know better on the right thing to do with a collectable axe, it was the axe-owner's response to his help that was off.......

Cool find! That one has peened/curled wood below the head too. I guess they came from the factory that way at that time. Either that or both heads have been re-seated by previous owners.

I have several NOS axes true temper and kelly works. They have curled wood. They belonged to my grandfather, he says he has never re hung them.
