Like spying on a whole other world...

Ashes.

You better be careful. You've already managed a knife shop, so you've seen lots of designs. You put sharp edges on knives for a living. Now you've found your way to the Shop Talk area of Blade Forums. You're just one short step away from making knives! You could easily curtain off a small area of that basement for your existing art and ad a grinder and small bandsaw and put your own twist on knife designs:)

Welcome.

New York Grinders Assoc? Does that have to do with your job or does that explain a certain picture posted on a certain forum here abouts. Some of us are all over this place.

:)

The NYGA is work-related, yes. Most of the people in it are related to me in some way or other. My father goes to the meetings sometimes. I tease him that they are like the Knife Mafia. ;)

Gotta get to work...

Man that Nick is a chick magnet! I don't think there's a human of the female persuasion on this planet that wouldn't follow Nick anywhere... Even my wife thinks he's "a hunk." The worst part (for us everyday guys) is that Nick is also very smart and well spoken - even polite when it suits him. We just don't have a chance.

Fortunately this whole place is full of married middle-aged fat men just like me. Bloat Nick and reduce his muscles to adipose and you'll have a reasonably accurate vision of most of the rest of us. Hey, but we're all damn charming and skilled! That's worth a lot - somewhere.

It's sure nice to learn that there are young female knife enthusiasts out there! You can tell I'm one of those who never gets out of Shop Talk and I'm always a little surprized when reminded there are other forums. There aren't many women who really dig knives, and we makers are just too willing to debase ourselves, tripping all over each other to get one's attention. You can't blame us! I once had a girlfriend who enjoyed knives as much as me - what's more she could make about anything and was one of the country's leading authorities on Arabian (horses) geneology. I don't think there was anything this incredible woman couldn't do; I sure miss her sometimes. (Woudln't it be great if we could have all our former lovers, all the time? Between them we'd have something to be ecstatic about every day! (I happily acknowledge those among us who married their highschool sweethearts and have been content in love ever since; you lucky humans!)) I have no idea where I was going with that...but it was pertinent - really. :o :D Typical.

Anyway, welcome Ashes. I think it's true that you're on the brink of becoming a maker yourself, and when you do you'll find this the best place in the world to get help and valuable criticism. Meanwhile we're all more than willing to bask in the radiance of your attention. ;)

By the way, the subject of your avatar is beautiful!

Dave, your check is in the mail!!! ;)

If only what you said about me were true, then that would be money (as I'm told "they" say) :D

You guys are right about the quick distance to her making knives. Hell, she can probably sharpen a knife better than most makers... getting all that practice in.

She's already very familiar with the forums, so she's got a good foot in the door to being on her way.

I totally agree Dave, that there aren't many women that don't hate knives, let alone like them. So it's certainly a treat when you run across the ones that actually enjoy this community :)

BTW- Yes, Mark is still in a herculean realm. He forges that 1" round bar down by hand. I've done it enough times to know how hard that can be. Soon he will be the GQ new kid in Colville :D

Keep saying stuff like that and I'll be following you around here like a puppy dog, lol. :o ;) :D (You're gonna make Danbo, Mutt and Ken jealous... :p )

There is a story about a picture of Nick being the screen-saver for all the women at Spyderco. ;)

Dave,

When you say that your wife thinks Nick is a hunk..............well not to be mean but.........I mean.......uh........well, let's just consider who she married! ;)

I think the story about the women at Spyderco is true......all them Colorado women have to look at is a bunch of sheep chasing cowboys........or so I'm told. Why even Master Mark would probably thrill them. :D

Mike if you asked her, she'd say "Yeah, but that was before I saw Nick!" I think she's just jealous cause Uma Thurman keeps calling me. :D

Now don't be mixing up Colorado with Wyoming where the men are men and the sheep are scared. Colorado is full of Texans and Californians, many of us natives left.

I'm as sharp as a tack (uh huh)... Hell, I'd settle for just running into Danbo's avitar; just as she is: bent over a "wadderfountain". :)
We all get a little thirsty now'n then. Oops! forgot... this is'bout sharp'nin thangs. Uhmm that's where I was headed with the tack thing. yea...

mitch, the incorrigible

Ha! Mitch you should've been at the pool I was at this afternoon! Yikes! It's been a while since I was in such proximity to so many fine young women! Good thing my wife was there to keep my feet on the ground, or I might have forgotten I'm invisible... :D
