Not really, but just was wondering what the kamis reaction would be.

Harry

Somehow, Harry, I think you would probably have to be there to appreciate it ( the kami's reaction ).

I keep looking back and forth at the Gelbu Special and the Kumar Kobra on the HI website. What keeps nagging at me is the idea of a Kobra with a fullered blade. Same weight, same spine thickness, wider blade.

Just a thought...

The "nagging" part suggests it's more an obsession than a thought. Join the obsessed, you have plenty of company here.

A fullered Kobra...

Dammit, I coulda sworn I was cured for good.

Are you thinking of a fuller running down the bevels (as if the blade was hollow-ground) or the tapering flat section between bevel and back?

This is why I haven't put in an order for something yet unseen. When the very first of the new ones come in I'll go into immediate HIKV withdrawal.

Yeah, I'm hooked, admitting it is the first step, right?

I was thinking that if the blade thickness directly behind the edge were unchanged and there was a fuller midway between the spine and edge then the edge would be pushed down making a wider blade with a little more curve to the edge without adding a lot of weight.

Or I just might trust Kumar's judgement and pick up a stock Kobra for half the cost of a custom job!

I just love decisions!

OK, I give up. Uncle Bill, please order me a 20" sirupati with a saatisal handle, 3/16" thick. Thank you.

Christian

Will order it, Chris, but it will take some time. Be patient, please, but don't neglect to bug me about it from time to time -- just so the order does not fall thru the cracks.

Khukuri FAQ

Uncle Bill,

Please make it 1/4" thick. And no hurry, I'm going on vacation and won't be back for about six weeks.

Christian

Pakcik Bill.

Now it's about midnight at Kuala Lumpur - something cropped up - just have discussion with few elders regarding blade thickness and it's functionality right at our local Malaysian environment - we come to some sort of understanding that blade thickness of 1/4" is more justified than 3/16 for working purposes under tropical grass & trees sort of environment!

So Pakcik Bill - I just hope that you haven't send the order of these thin blades to BirGorkha - May I change the thickness of 25" Thin Sirupati which I order from 3/16" to 1/4". I am very sorry to trouble you again and again ... I hope I'm the only one who behave this bad to you! Please ... update specs of my order in your log as:
  • Sirupati model.
  • OAL 24" - 25".
  • Thickness of 1/4".
  • Saatisal wood handle - standard model.

My pleasure, nephew. The khukuris you returned are still not here. Some that were denied entry to Japan by customs there just got back after 4 & 1/2 months in transit!

Khukuri FAQ

Pakcik Bill.

I think I'm going to send a letter to POS MALAYSIA cc to Custom Dept as to know what actually they have done to that parcel which contains my 18" Kumar Kobra + 25" Sirupati.

It was stamped on their letter to me: TO BE RETOURED IF NOT CLAIMED BEFORE 8/5/2000 - and Malaysian normally use a Gregorian date format ie. dd/mm/yyyy which means that the due date was suppose to be 8th of May, 2000. Anyhow ... Maybe I have to give a call 1st ... sometimes a single call may cause thing work as what it suppose to be! They might give me a big surprise if suddenly they say that the due date is 5th of August, 2000 ie. using the date format of mm/dd/yyyy!

BTW; next year we will have a more confusing date! Somehow it will start with 01/01/01 ie. 1st of January, 2001. Our mainframe computer is using yy/mm/dd format; while our filing system is using mm/dd/yy format and our reporting system is using a Gregorian date ie. dd/mm/yy! Another one is a Julian date format ie. yy/dddd which are used by few utility softwares! So ... a date such as 03/02/01 might end up with a heck of confusion ... !
