Lil camp cooking, warning: dead critter pics

Man...that looks like a great outting and some great eats. Super jealous...was stuck inside all weekend with a bad cold. So how longer did you let the bird simmer before you took it off the direct heat?
 
Real nice camp set-up. I'm looking for one of those tents for my Blazer S-10. I love it when I go into the woods during hunting season and eat what I shoot the same day. If it's deer I always eat the liver the same night. Good stuff!

About an hour or so, then probably a little more off of the fire. :thumbup:

Very nice, when I first saw the pictures I thought they were woodcock.
 
Some really nice shots there. Awesome eats too, it's been years since I had quail. Dutch ovens are awesome in camp.
 
man o man, have you ever wrapped them up in bacon strips. It is fantastic. Easy to do on a fire too.
 
Thanks for sharing. How do you dress them out? I've never bird hunted.

If they're not shot up too bad, you can step on the wings and grab the legs and pull em apart. Then pull the remaining skin off and inards off. If they were hit good, that may not work. Just pluck a spot at the top of the breast to make an incision to get your finger in. The skin pulls off easily, pull the breast and legs out of the skin and remove them with your knife. I never pluck any birds, except a duck every now and then. I'll leave the skin on those if I'm making a stock with them, or roasting one. Next time I get a couple, I'll take some pics of the process, it's really easy.
