lil' help pickin' a blade

the skinny ash is light and strong and still available at the busse company store...i love mine.

Well, coincidentally my first Busse was a FFBM and I felt the same.

Your list of uses is similar to my own save mine includes military use as well.

After buying a lot of knives....for what it is worth my favourite "one" only knife is a standard D/C FSH....but I base this on needing some chopping ability.

My choice if I could have two knives....would be the Ratmandu by Swamprat...the best 5 inch knife I have tried. There is no comparable Infi that feels quite as good that I have tried....the nearest on feel and balance and blade design is the Jackhammer....at 6 inches this would be my third knife choice.

After this....well...it will be the Khukri when it comes out next year.

These 4 knives will be all I need in due course. I have tried a number of the other choices mentioned above...of which there are many which are able choices...seperating some of these is just personal preference.

Sarsquatch.

I have an Ash1 CG, and it is still a beast. The NMSNFO would likely be great, if you wanted a longer mid sized/largeish knife.

Another vote for the NMSFNO. Mine just came in and it's light and nimble and with the choil you can choke up for finer work or use it to hack if needed. Like a light FBM.

Nice!

I don't know, the Skinny ASH is the first thing that came to mind. The NMSFNO might still be a bit bigger than he wants (although a sweet blade).

SHBM!

Ok, assuming you don't have an extra kidney to sell, get an NMSFNO. All bases covered with one tool.

Another option is to get a Meaner Street or a BATAC and a Paul's Hatchet, or any hatchet for that matter. That would also cover pretty much all your bases.

Skinny ASH, MNSFNO, or SARSquatch. Of the three, the Squatch might get my vote for most useful "All Around" blade.

i like the 2 knife idea- a skinny ash for the camp and game warden...or a BAD...you can go to the store and buy a bad and ash right now. how sweet would that be???

Have any of you tried to skin a Deer with a NMSFNO:confused:

The OP stated Hunting in the thread. A former Butcher and having had a Deer processing buisness tells me not many would pick such a large knife for hunting if they have used one for such.

I still say...ABA, standard BAIII, Meaner, SJ or Skinny ASH. In that order for what the OP is looking for.

If you could go with two that would be a great combo:thumbup:

The FSH is probably just a little too big for what you are describing, it has quite a bit of weight behind it and a fairly thick blade, which is all good but as I said a tad big for your needs.

The NMSFNO has an 8 inch blade but not the heft of the FSH so it would be a lot less hassle to back pack with and I suspect a reasonable all rounder.

IMO you would be very happy with either an ASH1 or batac (CG or LE). You can strap either to your side without feeling like your weighed down too much. Now these two won't chop wood as well as the others but they will certainly do enough to get you out of trouble.

Hope this helps :)

Just read Ken44's comment about two knives. Great idea, Game warden, AD or my favorite Meaner Street.

you're nut if you don't get a skinny ash, they we very limited to just a few of each color and they are light tough and used by hogs world wide.

besides, i already picked one out for you

Skinny ASH and Boney Active Duty. It's hard to beat that combo, and both are available from the company store right now. They even have sheaths for both

I think I'd rather go for a Boney Active Duty and an NMSFNO. The BAD is small, so why not take a bigger knife than the SASH with it? ;)

well here is the current status...lol

traded ffbm for a sar warden, and an ad...

I AM HOOKED!!!!

i simply love the busses!

the AD fits me particularly well...but, the warden sar, seems about pefect for hunting uses...

SO MUCH FOR THE ONE KNIFE HOPE!!!

anyhow, need to settle in on a mid-size to larger blade...

ok, here's the deal, just picked up a ffbm, love it/hate it...

i REALLY love most of it, but i honestly think it's a bit big/heavy for my intended use.

i am looking for a backpacking / camping / hiking / hunting blade...

BUT...
i am IN with the busse infi and workmanship/quality...

SOOOO, looking for a bit of help with the selection of a blade to meet my needs, please give a lil' help.
:)

I think you couldn't do much better than snagging one of the SFNO models direct from Busse right now.

ok...so, i beleive i am gonna be happy with a skinny ash.

looking at the busse website, am i correct, you can only order one of the few they have listed?

if someone could gently...or not so gently, nudge me in the right direction.

the skinny ash, seems about perfect from descriptions, but i am wanting to go with an orange handle, which i do not see listed...????
