Lil Temperance???

I just ordered a Temperance with the leaf blade. The bad part is I'll be on vacation until 3/20 so I'll have to wait! My EDC lately has been an ATS55 Delica. Works great but I'm ready for a change. Is anyone using the Lil Termperance as their EDC?

It's been my EDC and has worked out great. Only thing I did was change it to tip up carry.

My problem with the little temperance is that the clip is not reversible....any chance of a lefty temperance? While I appreciate the number of ambi models spyderco offers, most of the knives with any handle material other than FRN seem to be righty only.... :(

It's been my EDC since last October. I also switched the clip to tip up carry. Other then that I would not change a thing. Color is fine w/ me. Actually I prefer it over black. All in all, I highly recommend it.

Thanks for the pictures Dman.., nice of you to post them.., great looking little knife.

tell me what you have used your knife for...ever try whittling, wood cutting...is there any blade play...give me a user report...Pleeeeaaase!!!

I carry mine every single day and I use it to cut what needs to be cut. Mine is as solid now as the day it arrived. I'm pretty damn happy with it. It has a nice thick wide 3 inch blade and it carries well in the pants pocket and even looks nicer with that satin 3 hole clip.

It has gotten smoother as I use it though. One drawback, I do think the clip screws could be a tad longer, but like I said in my past post....I'm picky.

Blade play is not an issue with the LT! It locks up tight and strong. It also has an eccentric pivot so any play that develops over time can be adjusted out. The 440V cuts wood and cardboard really well but doesn't bite into the hard plastic of a tie strap, for instance.

Do you still like them? Which do you prefer, trailing or leaf?

I am considering the purchase of one but can't decide between the two blade shapes. I also am not crazy about 3" blades. I wish the blade were closer to 4".

Hi,

I got the chance to own a trailing point.

The cutting edge is 2mm lomger than the leaf point and also the thin point is perfect for delicate works and agreesive penetration.
I also like the arc of the edge wich look like Fred Perrin Bowie custom LaGriffe.

This knife is really a stout and strong tool.
Built like a tank.

And with its full flat ground blade the cuts are deep and easy to do. Amazing !

It's a true Wolverine!

cheers,

JM

I've had both and I didn't care for the trailing point. I like the leaf due to it being wider and stronger at the tip and I just like the looks of it.

It's 3 inches, but like I said, it's a huge 3 inch knife.

Dennis,
There is nothing wrong with Lil’ Temperance 3” blade. Some days ago I came back from IWA Trade Show with rhino horn shaped one and now I understand exactly what had Sal in his mind saying “it is very special knife”.

So far my experience with Temperance is too little and I can’t to explain in my own words in the way I would like to explain, this is just feeling. But certainly the matter how a knife is big or how little is not in its blade length only. Looking deeper it should be formulated differently. The knife is as big as much user can do with it. And it is possible to do really much with Little Temperance.

Greatly probably leaf shaped blade would serve me better due to its versatility but it’s close to impossible to get one now.

Nice addition – refined Compression Lock holds the closed position way better than its first edition on Vesuvius and Gunting.

The next several runs will be with the same handle. (these are small runs). Then I plan to change the material on both handle & blade (for a few runs). This model is kind of a "test rat" for me.

I've received my Temperance Jr. not too long ago. Very different design that works well as a solid utility knife. Ergonomics of the handle are great. Blade design cuts very well despite being pretty thick. The lock design took a little while to get used to but gives great lock-up. The only problem is that blade hits the stop pin resulting in a flat-spot! I've touch up the blade but only a serious reprofile is really going to help. It's erked me so much I'm back to my Sebenza as a EDC. The Temperance is in my camping box and will be used as a beater at this point.

The upside is that I've come to realize how much I enjoy the quality of my Sebenza!

Huh? On my knife, the stop pin engages the tang when closed, at least 1/4" back from the edge. Is your edge smacking one of the other handle screws? Send it back to Spyderco ASAP!

Thanks, I should send just send it to Spyderco to get it fixed up. It really is a unique design that begs to be used. I guess that I'm little put off since I have such high expectations from Spyderco. The quality has always been so good for a production folder. Even my $40 Delica has been perfect even after several years of use. It took awhile to find the Temperance Jr. and it wasn't inexpensive either.

Ooops! I should have said "back pin" not stop pin. It's the pin that is in the center of the tip-up clip mounting holes.

Sal, I have one of both now, and I really like them. What is an estimated time frame on the other runs?

I remember reading those words from Sal and wondering what will come next. Just my two cents, how about black FRN with S30V the benefits would be lighter weight and cheaper price. The light weight handle could change the balance of the knife though, which is perfect as it is now!

Also wanted to add that S30V could be heat treated to a higher Hardness(RC?) while retaining more strength than 440V(S60V) which will give better edge retention over 440V as heat treated by Spyderco.
