Limitations of Para-Military handle?

I would really love a Military sized handle with a Para sized blade. That would rock. :)

Hmmm, I will have to research these steels. I know that militaries used to be made out of S90V, but I don't know how it compares to S30V. And know nothing about the cts steel. It seems to me that there could be a better option than S30V, which is why I am considering the ZDP-189 stretch. But it sounds like the ZDP, although able to hold a great edge, is a bear to re-sharpen.

If you've never given S90V a try, it's worth the wait. I have several S90V blades, including 2 Mules. It's pretty hard to sharpen, it took me 3x longer to reprofile than any S30V steel blade. It supports a thin edge (20 degrees inclusive) amazingly well and keeps an ultra sharp edge for a long time. So far, S90V only came in Sprint versions of various knives so they're not very common. If I had a choice, every knife I own would come with it. :D

No issues with my handle (x-large hands).

Put a titanium low riding clip on it yesterday:

Looks like this after a bit of grinding and slight altering of the holes (they are a bit too wide for the Para2, but fit the Dragonfly, Viele etc. perfectly):

Carries very well and extremely discretely:D

Great knife, very close to perfect! (liner/framelock and it would be) Wonderful job by the person who sharpened it at the factory as well:thumbup:

This makes my life more difficult! Do you have any opinion on S90V vs. the cts mentioned above (204 was it?) and/or the zdp-189?

The Para's "bump" does not bother me with my small hands. It can be very helpful when your blade is wedged in the sidewall of an old tracter tyre and you need to get it out...then it works well.

The compression lock can eat your hand when doing hard and repetitive push cuts. It is still my favourite edc and nothing keeps it out of my pocket for more than a few weeks.

Another plus about the original Para... no 4 way carry clip with unwanted holes all over the lovely handle!!!

Hopefully the Para2 will come out in a dedicated RH model, tip down of course. That would be knife heaven!

There have been some threads on the Spyderco forum where S90V and ZDP-189 were closely compared. You may want to try looking for that. I don't have enough time using the ZDP-189 blades to give you a fair opinion. CTS-20CP hasn't been used in any knife I know of yet. So that's a crap shoot. The specs say it should be an awesome blade but who knows?

Some more reading here.

My thought is at equally thin edges, S90V is tougher than ZDP-189. Catra results were same for both so they have similar edge-holding capabilities. Everything else I know about the two are all hearsay.

The sharp point at the end of the handle didn't work for me either. I took some 220 grit sandpaper to it, and this is the result:

I was a little worried about the point when I ordered mine. It was all for not as the knife feels like it was made just for my hand. I mostly choke up on the choil and that provides a great grip with a small amount of room at the back for my pinky. I love the knife and I wonder how many people have been scared away from all the grip talk. The way I see it the knife if held properly, is suited best for a stabber as the blade is inline with your fore arm.
