Limited edition knives - use or safe queen?

Use a limited edition?
I have a custom Ranger Made Knives Specialist from Bob Ohlemann. It's a one of a kind with mammoth ivory scales. I guess you could call that limited. And yeah I carry and use it, along with all my other customs often.
No I'm not even remotely wealthy. I just know what I like, save up to buy, and enjoy those things to their utmost.

Almost every well made knife is going to outlive it's owner so long as it's decently cared for.
But at the end of the day it's your property to do with as you please. If you can't bring yourself to use your knife and are okay with just admiring it in a glass case, that's ok too. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

One of my first folding knives was the M390 PM2 with red scales. I was glad to get this exclusive knife, but actually I haven’t used it yet. At first I hesitated since it would be hard to replace if I abused it. Then I acquired other knives that seemed to fill my needs better, and since they’re regular production knives, I don’t hesitate to use them.

In the long run I don’t think I want to hold on to knives I don’t use. So I think I’ll sell the PM2 one day, but even so it’s a great knife. In the meantime I’ll probably continue to preserve its pristine condition. If it weren’t for other great but more pocketable options in my possession (SpydieChef, ZT 0609), I’m sure I’d have occasion to use it. And if it were a regular production knife, I’d be more inclined to do so.

Just curious how many of you actually use your limited edition knives and how many buy them and put them away or just display them? I ask because I recently traded for a mint limited edition folder and I’m really tempted to use it. Stupid idea?
I say if you can afford the depreciation use it. You liked it enough to buy it so you should like it enough to use it. I am in the process of getting rid of my safe queens and replacing them with lightly used knives. I do this for three reasons, #1if I get it and it has a little wear on it I would not hesitate to carry it. #2 Igetting it slightly used also eliminates the huge depreciation of the knife when you buy it new. #3 I f I buy it new I will not be happy putting the first scratch on it. I use the same philosophy when it comes to cars etc. I figure the extra money I save the more cool knives that I can own and enjoy. Either trade them sell them or use them. If we leave these knives to our next in line I am pretty sure they won't know what to do with them and give them away for a song.

Use it. You never know when your time on this planet is going to come to an end. As posted by someone else in response to this question when asked a while back: "Everything in this life is only temporary, including our physical bodies, which are far more valuable than any knife."

Carry and use. One, your time on earth could end today, and two, I never see much by way of mega profit from buying as an investment. Oh, and third, next year their will be more exclusives, discontinued, and one-offs come along you’ll want. Any and all can be replaced by the next cool thing.

I have a few limited runs I use, no heartburn at all. I bought them specifically for the handles or the steel I preferred.

Funny thing is, I just got a very nearly NIB umnumzaan, which appears 100% mint. Fairly common, still in production. I love every aspect of the knife, but I can hardly being myself to pick it up yet. I even take off my (tungsten carbide) wedding ring first so I don't scratch it. I know I will eventually knock the new off it and it will be game on from there...
