line question: rocks, logs, etc.

What happened?

Memory like a slinky.
Abraded and frayed easily.
Not near the breaking strength of similarly rated Big Game.
And subjectively, it felt "brittle".

It takes a lot for me to dump a product.
I'm happy fishing with Ande mono if it is all I've got.

Don't overthink it... go fishing instead.
There is no best, only different.
Sometimes the fish win.
That's OK.

For mono I use Ande. Braid spider wire stealth. Flouro seaguar. I have no faith in berkly at all. The vanish and trilene big game and other stuff are weak garbage compared to what I listed. Decades of fishing everything from trout to giant sturgeon.

Trying out Stren Magnathin (4 lb test) at the moment on one rod. Regular Stren on the other that I take with me.

Get the Trilene. XT or Big Game.
When it gets nicked trim it off. .

What's your protocol for assessing line damage? Do you go by feel or by its appearance against the light, or some other method? Do you go segment by segment, or do you clip off a predetermined length, 5-6 feet, etc?

I am curious about this stuff:

Run your fingers down the line.
Listen to the mono coming thru the guides.
Look at the line closely

All of the above.

I retie my knot after every snagged lure gets freed, after every couple fish (or a really big one) and at the start of every fishing session.

As to the post about the line brand... I used the BPS house brand for years with no complaints... probably still have some lol.
