Happy New Year to you all, over the break I was able to get the Maroon Linen material going again :)
This is the new Orwell design with the slightly shadowboxed handles.
The handles are Linen Maroon Micarta left at a nice matte finish.
Handles are 3D machined with a nice palm swell and fit.
These blades are great in knife blocks or carried with the optional sheath.
The handles are secured in place with custom SS 416 Corby Black Oxide fasteners but are removable. Creating a whole new set of options. . . .
I designed this knife for the best possible feel in the hand. I thought about how I normally hold a knife while eating or using a small knife in the kitchen
This blade is the same great Bohler M390 material. It's holding a real nice edge and is hair shaving sharp with little effort.
4.5" blade length, 8.5" OAL
.110" @ spine, ground to .007/.008" at the edge before sharpening.
Slices REALLY well!
I can do this handle on a Polished blade or stonewash. Both are available and will ship immediately.
I have enjoyed meeting many BF members and have really felt at home.
Price on the Maroon is $110 EA TYD via paypal or MO/Check.
Significant price breaks start at qty 2 or more.
Much less finishing work on these Orwell, hence the price difference from my Gatsby knives.
Black Kydex Custom David Brown Sheath available for $45 if shipped with a knife, $50 EA by themselves and they do fit my other Gatsby model as well.
I am currently working on some new designs incorporating your feedback, so I remain open to suggestions and comments too:)

Thank you!

Thank to M.FREEZE for reviewing my knife:

As a newer maker I would like to take a brief moment and explain my process with these knives. I work in an aerospace machine shop in the Pacific NW. The shop I work at specializes in precision grinding of various parts and equipment. I have had a passion for knives for many years and about a year ago I started grinding my own blades using this precision equipment after hours. The handles are definitely the hardest part for me to complete. I have several friends in the machining industry who were able to help me see my designs become a reality. The finishing touches are all done by hand when needed to ensure the proper level of fit and finish on these knives. The result is an extremely professional, precise, tangible product of my imagination. All sharpening is done at a low speed to maintain the heat treat tolerances out to the final sharpened tip.

Brad, what do you have the m390 run at? That is a decent price for a hunk of that steel. Russ

Thank you Russ, the M390 is running 59-61 Rc. Heat treat done at Stack Metallurgical in Portland. They do a lot of M390 for some other Portland makers. Plenty hard for excellent edge retention but still just right for my grinding process and field sharpening if/when necessary :)

Looks really nice! Could you design a knife using the M390 steel, but is used more for the outdoors? Like a 1/8th inch think or maybe even 1/4th inch thick knife with the same handle style and have a blade that is about 4.5 inches. That would be a real seller on blade forums!

Thanks , you are reading my mind, I have some stuff in progress that will be closer to your ideas :)
But, yes I have had several people use this blade outdoors, the reports have been positive. Nicely balanced, plenty light for easy carrying or packing. With the addition of the sheath, you can't go wrong. Just don't use it is a pry bar, all other tasks should be great!

Very nice knives. Orwell & Gatsby are basically the same except for blade and/or handle finish?

I'd be further interested in a version with a 2.75"-2.95" blade that's 0.12"-0.14" thick of M390.

Gatsby and Orwell are laser cut and ground together. Difference is handle configuration and blade finish. You are correct.
I agree with your recommendation on dimensions, I'm working on a few other designs, should be done in a few months.

I second this, I'd gladly put in a down payment for the knife :D I've been looking for a long time for a fixxie in M390 with a 3" or under blade!

Thoughts? False edge or not? Jimping or no jumping? Your feedback is most appreciated!

I think blade shape is fantastic. I really like your Guardian knife.

Yes to false edge. Thumb jimping is very good idea. I wish there is a choice of 3.5" and 4.5" option.

I just bought the guardian 3. I was really wanting at least a 4" blade with at least a 3.5 edge. 4.5 is always nice....decided to jump on it nonetheless. Looking forward to using it.

Thanks for your support, I am very happy with the fit and feel of the Guardian3, I have started developing a Guardian4 (4" Blade) model but it probably won't be ready for about 4 months.

Let me know when the Guardian5 is available. Going to get a Gaurdian3 from BladeHQ now.
