liner lock thickness

I was looking at one of my older Microtechs, and I noticed how much heavier their liner locks used to be. Now both Emerson and Microtech have fairly thin locks given the size of their knives. Were the older Emerson locks also thicker? It seems like they should be heavier since a number of people have posted complaints about lock failure.

When EKI started making thier knives, they did over build them. Personally I like that.

Both EKI and MT make excellent products. Heck, no one picks at the guys on the bottom of the heap.

Just a little story here. I went to Blade this year looking for a specific makers knives. I didn't tell anyone the name as that's a sure way to make sure everyone else gets your knives.

I'd seen this makers "Tactical" models on the net and in magazines. In fact, he's a well respected maker in the knife community. Imagine my suprise when I look over three of his knives and the liners are half the thickness of EKIs.

I think if you take a look around, EKI and MT are in the average (or higher) for liner thickness. Now Ryan and Strider (customs) do blow them away in the liner thickness department, but that doesn't make EKIs or MTs knives any less real world products.

How many here have managed to collapse an EKI liner under use? I know I haven't.

Jonas spine whacked the piss out of a '99 Commander and managed to ruin the lock, but it held.

Who exactly had a lock failure? Did they send the knife back in or was that a couple of our Troll buddies?

I've never had one of their locks fail either, but there have been posts implying that it happens now and then. The thought of my Commander's blade closing on me makes me a little nervous. I'd definitely like to see a beefier lock.

As John has said, just who has had a lock collapse ? I personally have never seen any quality knife's lock collapse and have never seen any evidence of an Emerson's collapsing.

I use all of my Emerson's both for 'fun' and at work, I have never had a problem with the locks or any other part come to that.

I am now a proud owner of a Strider custom as well (GB Model) and somehow I don't think the lock on this baby will collapse.

Incidentally, you can imagine the looks I get at work when I fiddle with my CQC6 when I get bored. I did the same with the Strider the day it arrived, you should have seen peoples faces !

Just out of interest, here's a pic of the Strider custom against my CQC6. See the differnce in thickness !
