Hi Brian,
I had the same question and recommend a book called "The Tactical Folding Knife" by Bob Terzuola
call krause publications at 715 445-2214 or www.krause.com
The ISBN: 0-87341-858-1

Thank You but that book cost to much money.I am shure it is a good book.
I just dont Have that much to spend on a book right now.

Try Googling the Terzuola book. I remember seeing somewhere on line in a PDF file that can be downloaded. The book is no longer in print. You might also check with your library. That's where I first read it. Even if they don't have it, they can probably get it as an interlibrary loan.

You are right. I just checked Barnes and Noble used books and found 2 copies starting at $76.95 . I cant believe they went up that much and used, not new.

The book is out of print and the only sellers are those who bought the end of the stock to sell at jacked up prices.

The same with the
How to make folding knives by Lake, Centofante and Clay

See this link for a direct download of the PDF file.
I like a real paper book best, but it is a reasonable alternative.

To answer your question directly.....be ready, because its pricey for the stuff to make folders...especially when you first start out. I can remember when I started, I ordered about $350 worth of stuff from MSC, and it came in a padded envelope that was smaller than a regular letter size.:eek:

The initial investment in the tools such as the drill bits and reamers, a good micrometer, and other associated tools is the pricey end. Parts (screws, pivots, stop pins, etc. are really not all that expensive when compared to the tooling. I've streamlined my screw sizes (I use 2-56 almost exclusively), and by searching around for different sources on pivots, washers, hardened pins, etc. you can save yourself a bunch of money. There are very few folder parts that I purchase from knife supply outfits, simply because I can get the exact same item from other sources for about 1/3 the cost.

Ed is dead on, all the drills, taps, reamers etc, add up to big $$$

I get all my screws, counter sinks, pivots and titanium from RB Johnson. Super guy to deal with!!! And most everything els from MSC.

RB can put a beginer set together pretty reasonable. Call him. I'll dig up his phone # later if someone doesn't post it here first.

OK, just saw where Lon posted RB's site, didn't know he had one. I always just call. http://www.customknives.com/r.b.johnson/
