Where does one get the little components such as detent ball, washers, pivot screws, etc., that go into linerlock knives. I've seen some places online that sell pivot screws (and other screws), but it appears to be a very limited selection. In particular, where does find the detent balls ...and is there some component that can be taken apart to procure a supply of the little buggers?

Most of the knife supply houses sell them (Sheffield, Koval, TKS). I get the 440C hardened and hard chrome from MSC Supply.
Lots of tutorials on the forums and they are talked about there.

A few years ago I ran across a whole box of small servo motor bearings for free. I snapped them up as they all had 1/16 balls in their races. I just split the races and use the bearings.

I get my compents such as pivot pins, screws, balls and Ti from Halpern Titanium.

Google them. Great people.

Be careful in your selection. I was recently given a couple 3/16 pivot assemblys by Steve Ryan while he was sharing his tremendous knifemaking knowledge with me. The work fine with frame lock designs. Then I ordered some pivots from RB Johnson and when I received them I determined that they were only suitable for liner lock designs and so are useless to me at this time while I'm trying to learn to build a frame lock. It wasn't Mr. Johnson's fault, if I'd more closely examined his diagrams I'd have found the issue and not ordered them from him. He has all the parts needed to make liner locks and would be a great place to start. As mentioned above, Tesax Knifemaker's supply has the stuff as well as several other places, but Mr. Johnson has focused in on liner locks and seems like he can give some good advice on what you need to start off. Just looking at the wide variety in some of the catalogues can be a bit confusing when trying to figure out what to get for the first time (at least for me).

Check him out at:
